While the concern is all real, I will point out that neither of them really got a clean fast lap in, according to TeamStream. Let us wait for quali....

Bottom 7 cars in FP3 were Mercedes powered cars only (with the exception of Hamilton in P11). I know it's only FP3, but we seemed to experience that as well in Bahrain more or less. It can't be coincidence. So, this combined with the team's issues this year explains the results we seeing.

We were about .5 quicker than that in FP2. Not sure why we were slower in FP3.

Still believe that the engines are turned down for Mercedes powered teams (or the engine is very underpowered)… Looking that the telemetry traces, both Hamilton and Norris are down compared VER and LEC by a lot on almost every single straight, which wouldn’t look like just drag… Corner speed isn’t horrible, it’s on par or closer in several corners to either 3 of the other drivers (HAM, LEC, VER)… I don’t think they will be bothering the guys on the front, but I think Qualy will be better than FP3… Q3 is a possibility in this track

Lando’s 3rd attempt during initial runs was aborted… his fast lap attempt in the second half of the session (when the track had cooled down) was also aborted.

Qualifying has arrived for Jeddah. Good luck to the team and hoping for a better result here by some places higher at least.

As it stands right now Q2 is the first target and Q3 the second target.

I know we are not on the pace… But Lando’s lap looked good, the car looks planted though the lap

First big positive of the season… Daniel’s matching Lando’s Qualy time! This is great news for the team.

Hamilton out in Q1? Wow… Unbelievable

Lando might make it to Q3 if he repeats another good lap in Q2. Daniel also has a good chance cause the difference was miniscule.

There has to be something wrong with Hamilton's car. I cannot believe a driver like Lewis is truly 6 tenths down on his teammate (after multiple attempts).

Crofty said once or twice that according to Toto, there's more to come from the Mercedes engine.... whatever that means.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Is it possible that the Mercedes are losing 8 tenths from the engine only? Can we expect good news from Mclaren being 8 tenths faster from a better engine or it doesn't work like that?

Most definitely… They are also lacking huge amount of DF (the way he was sliding on the Mediums)… Maybe different setups?

Now… Lewis been out in Q1 puts Mclaren’s struggles into perspective… Anyone can get it wrong and radical designs don’t necessarily equate to performance.
