They aren't choosing a pit lane start, they are breaking parc ferme (afaik they can do that whenever they feel like it, without having to justify it) which then leads to a pit lane start.
seems like they didn't though. No changes on Hamilton's car, according to the FIA document

The only way that makes sense is if you’re not expecting anything and are just using it as a test session

maybe they are confident that it'll work better with high fuel load
It looked more Tokyo drift than a workable race setup #-o

Given how bad his car was in qualifying it would be insane to not start from the pits with a better setup. Even if they got 2 places or so on the first lap... so what, he won't go much further with that dog of a setup.
In Bahrein he chew up his rears quickly so they set up the car to be easy on them here for the race. But that means he couldn't warm them up in qualy hence less grip and confidence to attack the lap

Looks like Tsunoda might be out before it started. One has to wonder at the many problems Alpha Tauri has with that engine but RBR hasn't had that many at all aside from the fuel cavitation.

I think that the so called "Honda passage" to RBR Powertrains it was a little too fast...

I'm not sure what will be more embarrassing:

The performance of Mercedes at the moment or the unreliability of Honda if they lose one (or more) of the Redbull cars in the race.

This track is a tragedy waiting to happen, IMHO.
I think so also. Something ominous about it. A track designed to be this fast with so many blind bends…

…Here's wishing all a safe race.

Best wishes for Mick Schumacher, he's a nice kid.
There are elements of the track that remind me of Montreal, Panis had a huge one there in 95/96; this sort of thing is nothing really new for the drivers.

But….

Drivers, being drivers, will push for every 0.001 second. The only way to being totally ‘safe’ is to have every race at a different interpretation of Paul Ricard. Maybe that is why they are going back to Las Vegas, I can remember when when they did the last ‘car park’ race there.
Aye. I don’t see Jeddah as more dangerous than CGV, Imola, Suzuka.

If it was located somewhere else I do wonder if the H&S complainants would be as vocal?

No idea, really seem ex Honda teams had some problem in car/PU combo...at the end they started only this year to be a "full" constructor. Honda give them support in all the process, but is really a complete change in factory work. We'll see... https://twitter.com/AlphaTauriF1/status ... 7868636172

He already started using his second brand new engine, I guess. That is alarming for all Honda powered cars.

Oil pressure loss on Tsunoda's Alpha Tauri and I heard Gasly saying that whatever they did to his car, after he stopped on the pit lane in FP3, he hopes will last the whole race. Not super confident.
