I am really confused about FIA cost cut policy :( :wtf: :x

That was exactly the cost argument made by the likes of Renault.

The lack of action by the FIA early on led to this problem. The loophole should have been slammed shut when the first enquiry went in last year.
OWG did it to themeselves when Ross put it on the table and they declined. of course, hindsight is a b1tch now.
Theres a word for that version of the story... Spin
He put a proposal to radically simpify the regs that would have included the diffusor. to suggest he put forward a diffusor clarification just isnt true.

If such a proposal was indeed made, surely a professional like Ross Brawn should have minutes of meeting to post on Briatore's face, no?

I doubt anyone here can honestly believe Ross Brawn came to a FOTA meeting and said, "Look guys, there's a major loophole we're about to exploit in the regs and double our gains from the diffuser. Wanna close it, or wait until the season starts and we spank your diffuser-asses, Mosley-style, to see it?"

With a little twisting of the words, it was easy to hide the true meaning of his proposal, especially when your opponent is a playboy businessman like Briatore. It also could've been worded in a way that others couldn't agree to it - along the lines of templates perhaps?

The Protesting Four ("Protesting Four", "Diffuser Three" - is this becoming a superhero-contest?) warned us - both of the technical meaning of the new interpretations, and of the ensuing money-spending. It'll all be banned by next year, or 2011 at best - speeds will rise beyond what anyone expected for the 2009 cars, and we'll either lose our slicks, or lose the diffusers - or both. Either way, massive spending on a design-philosophy that lasts a year, or two, maximum.

Another new diffuser:

Although it seems they were also using the one from China too.

I concur, this is not the Mcl rear end. The shaft layout is very different.

looking at the drive shaft angle I am going to guess its a RBR or STR....

Why do McLaren run asymmetric exhaust opening?

On 5 live a team member said it was because the water and oil radiators are on different sides of the car and require different amounts of cooling.

Looks like the driver's right is the water side and requires less cooling because its outlet is smaller, but then why put the kKERS cooling on the left? funny things going on there are McLaren, if only they would answer all our questions.

Because the fuel inlet tube is on the right side.

KERS + short circuit + fuel fumes = UNSAFE!
