Merc has managed to build an absolute dog $hit of a car. Turd pods can’t be polished because ya can’t polish a turd. My god how the mighty have fallen.

Can’t believe the resurgence of Macca. Highly impressed. Norris is a superb driver. If I were the team I’d encourage him to be more optimistic. He’s better than he realizes.

Leclerc looks outstanding. Relaxed. He knows he’s in a fast car and he’s driving within his and the cars limits. He’s simply a better driver than Carlos, and arguably the best driver in the field.

Carlos is throwing his season away. Should Charles win the title, it won’t bode well for Carlos next year as we know Ferrari will favor the champion. The crash today from Carlos may prove much more costly to his career than he maybe realizes. He better get down on it during the sprint.

Fred is still pulling more out of his car than the car deserves. He’s done it his entire career. He’s a joy to watch. Seems the new floor is working which is a good sign for updates to come...I hope he can find a win this season.

Red Bull is being Red Bull. Stable car and continual updates that work. Great drivers. Have they fixed their fuel line issues? Guess we will know by the end of the weekend.

I’m still convinced Perez fundamentally understands this years car better than Max, but Max seems slightly faster naturally and seems to be more relaxed under pressure.

Highly impressed with Haas. They are doing a great job. Happy for the team and their speed right out of the box this year. It seems to be legit as they are consistently fast.

What would cause the Williams brake assembly to explode like that?
Best summation of the current state of F1! Amen

The RD was to hectic with the use of red flag today imo.
Has Red Bull again massive top speed advantage here? any guess?
No they don't, it's all just tyre warmup, Ferrari is gentler on the tyres, LEC was 0.7s faster than his previous attempt and just 0.5s behind VER on his red flagged lap through S1. In Q1 with 3 consecutive laps Ferrari went progressively improving especially thanks to S2 and S3. Ferrari would have likely put the car in front if:

1) Session was immediately red flagged when bottas parked (VER wouldn't have finished the lap like Sainz had in Australia)
2) Session wasn't red flagged after Bottas: Lec would have finished his lap and probably put in another one like in Q1
Agree but the red flag for Kmag incident and Bottas in Q3 was unnecessary. VSC should do. There is a marshal post with space right behind where Bottas stopped but no. F1 needed a tow truck passenger Bottas meme 🤨

Far too eager with the red flags IMHO. Maybe they wanted to maximise session time rather than a yellow and people have to slow down. Still a right pickle. Q2 and Q3 wasnt even worth watching. Infact - neither of it was really.
Mess with the Bull - you get the horns.

Sprint quali is a terrible format, I hope this is the last year to do it...
Fully agree. This weekend´s format is horrible. If it´s raining tomorrow, I think I´m gonna skip this one because, I have to admit, I am fed up with the colour red, I can´t take it anymore. This year has been a disgraceful red nightmare. And no, I´m not talking about Ferrari!

Might be better to wait for a full season before deciding leclerc is "just better" than sainz, like last year showed us.

This session was a hot mess and as a Ferrari fan I’m frustrated. I think Charles would have ursurped Verstappen with another lap.

What concerns me is the Ferrari porpoising. It was so severe today, almost like the Mercedes - with the floor slamming into the ground and sparking each time. Surely a full race distance + a sprint no less is going to be hard going for that car, and a retirement is absolutely worst case scenario.

I wonder how the tyres will fare in the race. I expect redbull to have done a lot of work on their high deg after Australia, so I expect it to be much less of a differentiator. If that turns out to be true, then I think the top two will finish both the sprint and the race as they qualified.

Hopefully Carlos can stay calm and bring the car home in what I think should be an attainable p3-p4

I am a little puzzled to say the least with the Sprint race format…

Are teams allowed to make set up modifications on cars between now and FP2?

Or they must have the exact same settings that after qualy? (for the race tomorrow).

My understanding is that they’re in parc ferme… so short answer I guess is no. Can’t make changes. Please correct me if I’m wrong though because I also want to know

I wonder why you’re concerned about that after having watched Melbourne.

Imo, it looked more severe here than in Melbourne. Imola is also bumpy so perhaps it’s no different, but in Australia I don’t recall the floor bouncing so vigorously into the floor that it was sparking like a light switch being turned on and off. But maybe I’m just a worrier because I want Leclerc to win

Yes you’d imagine the heavy grounding would cause damage over a race distance. It looked bad on both the Merc and Ferrari.

First race thread I've ever seen with 12 pages after qualifying.....

Says a lot about the current state of F1 :(
