Mercedes themselves have said the PU is probably missing 1-2 tenths on Ferrari.
Yeah well, I don't see it. I see a HUGE top speed problem with Merc (porpoising?) but AMR look to be out accelerating Ferrari, they just are starting from 50% slower speed.
These are not things one can eyeball. You must look at telemetry and statements of team representatives.
Sorry, that's what I meant. I posted the telemetry a couple of pages back.

I posted just a bit but I looked at a ton of it.

More words of wisdom from Mr Fittipaldi

"They're always ahead in the positions of other Mercedes engines (cars). That means the chassis is not bad, the mechanics are not bad. Mercedes has improved the engine. I think working in the same direction, they are going to improve for sure.

I think McLaren will be more and more competitive at every new grand prix. I would say after Monaco, they should be extremely competitive. This is my personal opinion. McLaren started on the third row of cars (at Imola). That means they're good, they're fast and they're consistent cars.""

I have a feeling he knows something. Perhaps with the new rules the car can gain a huge amount of car with just an upgrade.

He does say "This is my personal opinion" though.

I expect the McLaren to do well at Monaco. It's a low speedtrack with lots of chicany type curves. Unless it's hot and they struggle with thier brakes. We'll find out in Miami if they have thier brake problem is solved, it was down right cold in Imola like it was in Barcelona in preseason testing.

Really? with low speed corners being their biggest issue? They may struggle to get out of Q1 (unless Spain upgrade is epic)

Here is a overlay of all the subsectors of Imola of Lecler and Norris's fatest laps of quali. It's REd if Leclerc was faster, Orange if Norris is faster. Notice where Norris is fastest. Oh and it's a counter clockwise lap.

Below it is the same comparison just between ALO and Norris.

Is Norris trying to deflect expectations when he says that low speed corners is where McLaren needs more downforce?

I don't think so. It looks like the McLaren is excellent on corner exit but he could always want more on entry and mid corner.

If I had to break it down I'd say their Mechanical grip is great but thier aero DF isn't efficient. So the faster the cars travels the more held back(drag) the car is in comparison to others.

Also that map is binary, so it only shows who's faster in that section not by how much. Like in the blue section maybe Norris is just a 10th behind while in the slow corners Alo is 2 10ths behind.

Are those from Q2 (Soft Runs) at Imola? We can probably tell how much time was gained lost in corner and on the straights too

I don’t know if there will be updates, but they are very necessary, despite the logistics, it makes sense to bring them to Miami. Mercedes will present part of the new package there.
