McLaren MCL36

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Surprised/pleased to see no new cooling openings (apart from those tiny slots at the top of the engine cover). Going to be HOT this weekend.

Also, any pics of the temp braking solution? This will be the hottest ambient race temp of the year I think (more so than BAH night race) so the interm brake solution will be tested to its limits....

Floor edge is updated according to the FIA release, along with a new front suspension?

Revised inner wishbone leg for McLaren. Just a repackaged for brake line and tether. Not an aero change

Looks like the new stay is in the middle of the ‘wavy’ part of the floor edge inline with the ‘V’ of Vuse

The 2 outside fences on the diffuser look a little like the RedBull ones.

Or is that an optical illusion caused by the angle?

Still think these air to air rads in the side pod are unnecessarily large. They clearly are happy with the trade off and perhaps having too large an area of the floor unsupported increases risk of porpoising. But it strikes me they can increase/energise the flow towards the beam wing/coke bottle area by having a different rad/packaging to improve the sculpting of the side pod towards the back of the rad

Perhaps running the stay this weekend is gathering data for the Spain upgrade package, we have never needed it in the past so perhaps the spain upgrade either means a lighter (and hence more flexing) floor or perhaps less of the floor will be supported like it is currently on the car.

No sure what relevance that has, since the team with biggest sidepods destroys everybody else. The only team that has come close to them is RBR and there sidepods are still HUGE in comparison to McLaren.
