Long run time was interrupted, but anyone with F1TV or otherwise have any laps between fer/rb/merc in those last few mins?

Merc might just be back! Bouncing still looked probably worst of the top 3 without DRS so unsure what race pace will look like.

Mercedes will for sure not win this weekend. Not on pure pace at least. In the race sims, Charles put in sectors that the Mercs were not close to.

It looks like Mercedes turned up the engine a bit more, but they're still bouncing.

I'm a big fan of Carlos Sainz but it's ironical how drivers say they can all win in the fastest car. Now he finds himself in arguably the fastest car, four races in he still can't keep it out of the walls.

Not saying Charles will make a mistake. But this track seems very "error prone" it might reshuffle the grid for the checkered flag

* Speed difference is gone from FP1, all 3 cars have same top speed basically
* LEC had a pretty big lift before finish line, and generally phoned in the lap after the last corner
* LEC is by far best at braking, very late compared to the others in all conditions
* As in FP1, RBR and FER keep their 8th gear in the pocket for a bit longer, you can see Merc accelerating faster out of slow corners, I don't know if that's actually the performance of the engine compared to the others, we didn't see this in previous races so I'm going to say they have the engine in a bit higher mode

Race pace also looks better for Ferrari, I think all cars managed the same stint... I'm going out on a limb here and say that I hope Sainz doesn't bottle it again because it could be a good race for Ferrari.

Looking at those traces, redbull with significantlyyy less downforce than the other two. I wonder if they’ll do an Australia and adjust closer to the merc/Ferrari. I can’t imagine it’ll do well for the tires as-is. Hard with max out of the equation tho as he does usually have a few tenths in hand which would have been the true comparison to Charles.

LEC had an edge over Russell in the very limited sample we got. Hamilton is the race pace benchmark and we don’t have any data for him.

The fact that Merc are even in the conversation when breaking in new parts on a brand new street track is amazing.

Inappropriate track design in the chicane area
Not at all, it's only unique and interesting part of the track IMO. :)

The rest of the circuit is extremely generic.

Hamilton and Russell did pretty similar times in terms of their best sectors in race trim. The fact that it’s a new track can also make this a complete outlier in terms of performance. Barcelona will be a much better reference point for how the new updates really work.

Barcelona is where their bigger upgrades will come.
