Track is very disappointing. It could surely produce some excitement and unexpected results, but it's not a good RACE track.

Interesting as far as qualifying goes. Definitely opportunity for drivers to make a difference, and get a little lucky as well.

I only glanced at the track map prior to yesterday. At a glance it looked promising, but its way too tight and awkward. Was hoping for more of a COTA feel regarding high speed into low speed sections. But there's no opportunity for alternate lines when its so tight.

How many times are drivers going to cut the tight chicane in the race?

Seems many of you boys like talkin' bout jewelry though. :D

The twittersphere seems more and more convinced that Mercedes can mount a legitimate challenge here.

Id anticipate Ferrari ran with lower engine modes which can account for some (though not all) of the difference on straights, but merc is right there in the corners too. Could be interesting.

I'm a big fan of Carlos Sainz but it's ironical how drivers say they can all win in the fastest car. Now he finds himself in arguably the fastest car, four races in he still can't keep it out of the walls.
Sainz can't get on with the handling characteristics of the car, at least so far. Perhaps it will fit more to his preferences after updates. :)
I would be interest to know which aspect of the car affects his driving style.
He said, on Beyond the Grid, that he like a car with a lot of front end and he can't handle a very oversteery car. He added the 2021 Ferrari was pretty neutral. Would be curious to know his analysis of the 2022 car.

Wouldn't a strong front end mean the car will be oversteery? That makes no sense if he said what he said. He obviously likes a car that has a neutral balance. That would be a proper term.

It was close on a flying lap but Leclerc was much faster during the race sims. That’s why I don’t think Merc will threaten either RB or Ferrari but it’s looking like Merc will resume as best of the rest.

I think the main reason Merc is more competitive here has to do with the high track temperatures. They are able to fire up the tires for one lap finally. They are still about 0.5sec slower in race pace, but it looks closer than it has been before. All in all looks like a more competitive Merc, but they are still not ready to win on merit imho.

That is what I believe is happening as well. Mercedes have had definite warm up issues

Imo it can't all be attributed to tyre warm up because before the bouncing was effecting braking points, high speed corners and they had to lift on the straights amongst other things.

It can't be a coincidence that the car is bouncing less and they are going much faster, it even looks easier to drive when you watch the onboards.

One thing is sure, with high track temperatures, Ferrari doesn't need 2 laps to warm up the tyres like in Australia or Imola, they seemed able to get down with the lap quickly.

I never mentioned ToTo, we have about 10 other team leaders, but all we get is just Horner, don’t make out that it is mixed cause it isn’t, it is 90% Horner.

Get Seidel, Otmar is commonly on, Guenther makes an appearance, same with Binotto, Dont think you see anything from the others.

When did you last see Vasseur, Jost Capito, Mike Krack, Franz Tost, Toto Wollf ever speak from the pitwall/garage during a session?

The sliding around in this track is top notch, ice skating worthy. With the hard tyre you can't stay on track really.
