Be interesting to see what happens with the track after its rained.

Seems odd they use granite to lay the surface, held together with bitumen, then wash the bitumen out to stop it rising to the top. Surely it releases all the bits of gravel on the top layer of track?

What was odd I seen yesterday from the on-boards.....you could see the pieces of granite reflecting the sunlight, never seen that before on any other tracks.

Hot mix asphalt is a little more complex then just some granite mixed with bitumen.
The process of waterblasting is used to accelerate the wear process, pulling off the oils and some of the fines from the surface in order to expose the heavier aggregate. If the heavier aggregate is then being released from the surface by the cars, then the civil engineers made a mistake with the mix design or it was not installed to spec.
I would love to see the mix design for this circuit but highley doubt its been made public.

I think Charles tires were a little cold to start the lap, he loses a lot into the first 3 corners.
But that may have played into his favor since by the midpoint he's gaining everywhere.

Seen a few articles in build up how the organisers were raving how much work and preparation went into designing the asphalt for the track and how it was a unique combination. Got egg in the face now with most drivers saying it’s a joke

Russell being slower than on friday is stupefying...

The car wasn't porpoising when laterally loaded on Friday, but ultimately excuses about setup and coming on the radio to say the car is "hopping in yaw" (IIRC) are just excuses. Russell's teammate just plain outperformed him and did a better job. Likewise as when Russell outperformed the other Mercedes when Hamilton went the wrong way with setup in Jeddah.

Who knows what Mercedes did (or didn't do in response to track evolution) to make the car perform worse, but they clearly did!

In Jeddah, HAM went for a higher car`s ride height and didn`t have enough front grip to attack the corners ... then at Imola with those low temps and wet track RUS was lucky with his car setup choice more towards qualy (as per usual he is doing in contrast with HAM who tends to set up his car more towards the race) and having a quicker warm-up phase ... now here with these hot track temps, he overcooked the tyres hence sliding at the rear and with no grip at the front tyres to attack the corners ...

Why do I have a feeling that McLaren attempts a one stopper?

Ferrari will probably run the M-H-H, with RB on the M-H-M. RB should be very quick towards the end of the race if so.

Of course, rain could throw this entire thing out the window.
