Mercedes W13

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Interesting that they do not mention the imho apparent changes to the area where the floor connects to the engine cover.

Note how the black panel sits higher relative to the sips and is partially covered by the green stripe, the petronas logo has not moved (check it's positioning and size relative to the panels and their seams) yet the black/bare carbon portion at the bottom appears to be lower in height, the edge at the bottom arguably looks different as well.

This was already mentioned a few pages back tbf ... whether it's changes to the engine cover and where it connects to the floor, higher tunnels or a thicker floor is anyone's guess

You can notice what RZS is talking about in this shot a little bit as well. Its been re-profiled and may be evidence that the Venturi tunnels are bigger in that area. It's at the very least suggestive of the underfloor being developed and changed.

To point this out directly again, the floor has a steeper slope that meets the body of the car towards the bulge point behind the zero pod. (Right above where the 'e-perfomance' logo used to be in the previous floor spec)

Whats's the function of the three metalic connectors here ? Are we seeing the top of the 'skate' (which is hidden underneath) ?

To my untrained eye it looks like a late addition and bolted on last minute

Edit - my untrained eyes were wrong. Correct answer in the post below

It's a completely separate piece that is being held by those connectors
