Rules don’t matter anymore. Doesn’t matter that max crosses the line. Just let them race…
Slick tyres and damp track.

I cant see it getting very far, but if race results are going to be protested for the most petty things, then its just going to open the floodgates for anyone that does anything wrong in the most miniscule sense.
The results will not be protested, if the FIA does the job the right way. If they’re too incompetent to enforce simple rules, it’s their problem. Of course teams which have been put in a disadvantageous position will protest.

Yesterday’s yellow flag instead of immediate red flag after Perez crashed; today’s ridiculous race starting procedure with more than 1 hour delay; deploying VSC and SC first after Mick’s crash when it was clear that it was going to be a red flag from the beginning; ignoring the fact both Williams cars were blocking the Ferraris and in case of Sainz probably even denying him the race win and finally doing nothing over line crossings from both RedBulls when the ruling is so clear.

What a …show.

Total $h1t show from them today. Completely agree.

However, if things like this is the way the sport is going, then you'd expect more protests in the future over decisions that didnt turn out. For example, charles cutting the pit exit in Jeddah. RB could have easily threw a protest in for that for not following RD instruction.

Race result should be just that...the result with only scrutineering to possibly change. Not a protest and fans having to wait days for the final result to come through. Takes the fun out of the weekend.

Sure it costs to lodge a protest aswell.

Nonsense, they kept Lewis in check and prevented the rest of the field from getting in front of Alonso! Ocon shouldn't have gotten a penalty for Lewis' aggression, of course. And it seemed Alonso just couldn't get his tires switched on but after he did he pulled a gap, unless Lewis resigned to just holding position for the rest of the race.
So keeping Lewis in check has anything to do with Alpines objectives? Lol.

Lewis could not pass anyway. If Alonso was further up he might have had a chance at stealing a position off Norris and Ocon might have ran long to overcut Lewis. They botched it!
Alonso said he was saving his tyres, he has every right to do that. Sure he sped up for Ocon but that wasn't going to get rid of the penalty. Alonso successfully finished 7th which is the highest he was going to finish. If Ham slowed to force Ocon to fall out of the points good for him, I'm sure he got satisfaction for that.
Meanwhile Russell actually gained a position and finished in the top 5 again.
HOW???? he was immediately 3s a lap slower at the restart even after the free tyre change. its clearly more than that and he held up 2/3 of the grid. Sure hes legally allowed to do that, but a 2x WDC and a 20 year vet knew what he was doing. It was unprofessional to say the least imo.

That is not true - it is clear visible that Leclerc was too far away, anyway. I would say - when you (Ferrari) f**k up strategy/performance then you start to look for 20cm excuses...
It absolutely is true. Source: Max Verstappen

“ Verstappen said that the wild moment exiting the pits was the result of him being super aggressive with his acceleration, which he reckoned was crucial to staying ahead of Leclerc who was right behind him.

"I needed it," he said about pushing so hard immediately out of the pits.

"Otherwise he would have passed me, because I would not have the traction. My pit exit, that was probably the most fun I had in the race trying to stay ahead."

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/ferr ... /10313458/
Of course it is true that he needed to be aggresive on throttle etc. I agree. But it was not crucial to cross this 20cm of a line - if he would stay on the right side of the line he will be still enough ahead to defend his position - in this fast left to right corner is no place to attack.
But presumably you understand that he didn’t cross the 20cm on purpose - as does no one who has ever breached this rule because they know what the rules are - but crossing the line is a consequence of doing a thing that gets you an advantage over someone who is less aggressive on throttle in order to stay within the line/respect the rules.

Again, this is why we have rules, so ensure the playing field is equal for all.

Not to mention the fact that he all of a sudden did the fastest lap of the race once, and then dropped back severely again. That’s some interesting tyre saving strategy right there.

You mean going pedal to the metal in pit lane exit is god fault and not his?

Can't believe we're even discussing if Max crossing the pit lane line deserves a penalty or not just because it wouldn't change the outcome of the race!

There are rules in place that clearly state that you cannot cross the pitlane exit line and if you do so you simply get a penalty! I didn't really understand why the stewards didn't even note the incident! This is a clear violation of the rules!

Sorry for sounding like fanboism but whenever it is Verstapen impeding a rule they don't even get to review his action! He even admitted it himself as shown by his interview after the race...I don't think this needed a protest! The FIA should have taken action themselves...

I think this pit exit line crossing was all about letting them race though. It’s all about letting them race.
Its becoming a norm lately that the let them race benefits only RB i suppose.
- Leclerc missing weigh bridge
- Carlos crashing into Perez under yellow.

None if it should have been a penalty, and that line on fresh slicks, shouldnt be either

1) THE RULES says that you dont'n miss the weight bridge UNTIL you have parked inside your box ....not IF you pass the weight machine line: if you come back between these two moments you are OK.

2) THERE IS NO RULE punishing someone crashing under yellow or even SC (happened more than one in the past).

On what grounds? So there is no rule on crossing the pit line? Can't have one without the other, surely there is clarification needed?

Sorry not gesturing to you, just broadly at the stupidity of this!

What's tragic here is that you can go five seconds slower and the cars behind still can’t overtake. Just a parade

The cars wheel did not CROSS the line. Both admitted it was on the line, which isnt 'crossed it'.

I think it was really clutching at apples that one in all honesty trying to protest. Ferrari just wasted more of their already stretched budget.
