No there was no third as I have already pointed out :wtf:

I just don't see the miracle you claim he performed. That 4th was followed by 7th, 6th, 4th, 9th, 12th, 13th, 16th and 18th in a crap car. Then there was the major update and his results were 1st, 2nd, Ret, 12th, 1st, 3rd, 3rd and Ret which included four pole positions. Lewis didn't perform miracles, the car was clearly crap and then became good with a major update.
He clearly outdrove that car that year. So yes he perfomed miracles. The fight with Webber in the wet in Sepang was epic. Not a lot of drivers can do what he did that day. The 24 was a shitty car, even with the update, it did not became a regular winning car. Lewis took it places where it shouldn't have been.

The following years: 25,26 cars weren't spectacular either. Still Lewis managed to pole it and win with it now and then. He even managed to steal a pole from Vettel in Korea in '11 (dominant RBR, remember)...
So performing miracles means fighting with Webber.

In 2010, Hamilton won 3 races and Button 2. Hamilton got a total of 9 podiums and Button got 7 podiums. Hamilton ended with 240 points and Button with 214. How is that a bad car? This was Button's first season at McLaren.

In 2011, Both Hamilton and Button got 3 wins each. Button got 12 podiums and Hamilton got 6. Button ended the season with 270 points and Hamilton with 227. How is that Button managed better results than Hamilton if the car was bad?
2010: I didn't say bad, I said not spectacular.
2011, Lewis was mentally down due to his break-up with Scherzinger. It affected his season badly.
Mercedes AMG + Hamilton => dreamteam!
If you can't beat'em, call Masi!

Go, find those 10 year old threads, and continue there?

On with the 2020s, 2022 would be even better, thanks.

Thank you! Newer fans tend to make statements with old race results but they haven't bothered to research what happened in the actual races/seasons.

It's also amazing that people have only seen LH in the "rocketships" as they say, and then say its all about the car. The older fans know better though, but it's good to show them a bit of history.

What history? He didn't win in bad car. That lucky 3rd that some of you talking about is nothing special. There were many lucky podiums from many different drivers in bad cars...

The attempts are appreciated.

I don't know why anyone isn't discussing driver performance in 2022. Oh wait, yes I do.

Come on guys, these arguments about the drives that took place 10 or 12 years ago really have little to do with the current team thread. And especially in light of the fact that people will continue to have opposing views of what has taken place in years gone by.

Let's see if the 2022 season changes with time, or if the trends continue. Not doubt George is driving well, but has had less misfortune than Lewis overall. But if Lewis is still on the game over the season things will settle down some and Lewis will come back.

Right now, they both need a more capable car to fight with.

You are right. We aren't going to agree and it would just go on and on. It looks like we all have been on here since 2008/2009 and have probably enjoyed each others comments and discussions about other matters during that time.

Lets just draw a line under it.

Higher top speeds causing issues for both cars ?

That, and maybe the surface being not as smooth on the start straight, as it was in Barca. They didn't have any bouncing there, well Merc at least.

The worst it's been all season. I can see why they downplayed performance until Silverstone...

Surely it is suspension related after the porpoising persists as bad as ever despite all of the aero work to fix it

I expected it would be difficult here. The most difficult track of the year imho. You have to put the car low due to the twisty and tight intercity bits and you have a super, super long straight to then exacerbate the issue. Still, also here the third car I expect.

The Alpine will be faster I'm afraid. And even if they're not their straight line speed will make it impossible to overtake :
