I really struggle with how poorly these cars look in vertical travel. Whether it be bumps, porpoising or going over kerbs, I hate the tv visual

For whatever reason sound mixing also seems to want to emphasize the fact that these cars are bottoming out way too much, i don't know who's the genius who made this call...

Anyway, Ferrari has sector 2, but loses the rest...

Yeah, that whole moving doesn't look like it is anything desirable; Though it probably won't break (but last year it did seem to lead to the DRS not properly working), so I suppose it isn't unsafe, it still looks bad.

Ferrari probably has to look at losing a bit of downforce/drag; but, if they already have their lower downforce wing on, that might be hard to do for them.

Yeah, apart from that DRS flutter (and the whole wing moving a bit of a questionable amount), that Red Bull looks as good as the times indicate.

Would there be any gain from that 'fluttering' or would it be spoiling the 'wake'?

I was wondering if it is worth Ferrari complaining or if its better leave them 'suffer'?

Don't know but if you adjust the DRS wing in open position just a little further up you could decrease drag I suppose, but you can get oscillation because the wing is not perfectly horizontal with the air flow. So may be they try to squeeze out the absolute maximum of drag reduction.

Has to be said, Perez's rear wing didn't look to be oscillating anywhere near as much as Verstappen's one... might just need an adjustment or a replacement of the flap to sort it out.

Seems to me Ferrari is running a soft suspension to boost mechanical grip in S2 particularly but its causing major bouncing elsewhere.

As for Ricciardo, probably not the way he wanted to start the weekend.

Isnt that flap a risk? i mean this thing looks like it will break and RB had allready troubles in this area. If it brakes in the straight then bye bye bracking.

Perez wing is flapping less because he doesn't have the nolder sticker attached to the wing like Verstappen does, basically a bit lower DF and less vibration on the wing.

So somehow the flap is getting caught before fully open and then flapping to max gap? Seems more plausible that it’s opening beyond permitted, surely?

FP1 telemetry PER v LEC.

* new feature in this graph is the delta time between the 2, it's not perfect (long explanation as to why) but it's directionally accurate.

* RBR strong, aside from the telemetry, they had a great FP1, spent it with their program, their car doesn't bounce, although VER DRS flaps (PER's doesn't but he's running a different rear wing)
* RBR has been using a stronger power mode this practice, I say this because they reach higher top speeds just about every decent straight, including those where aerodynamic drag has no effect (<250kph).
* Same thing as previous races though, FER brakes later and has slightly better traction
* This time I wouldn't read too much into FP1, but I think RBR's lack of porpoising is good for them.
