Ferrari Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Do we have any information about Magnussen's retirement other than him saying it was “a power unit issue of some sort”?

Another engine has a problem

Do we have any pics of damages on crashed PU. Maybe we can finally decifer if it is split turbo or not?

So still nothing leaked (or was released) about the Zhou, Bottas PU failures?

I wonder if Ferrari are concerned that the problems they've had so far is showing its head across all the PU's both manufacturer and customer teams.

Does anyone know what components are still in the pool for the allocated allowance?

I guess Charles has lost 1 turbo and MGU-H so give him 1 additional unit to drop into the pool for those. From memory, I dont think any of the other components are 'scrap'.

Would be interesting if anyone knows which of the Ferrari Components are written off across the teams

Apart from TC and MGU-H Ferrari has no parts in scrap. I don't know the other ones.

However I doubt they are THAT concerned about penalties, aside from everyone going to have them, it's obvious that the top 2 cars are in their own league, like RBR and Merc last year, if they take the penalty in the right races they'll end up top 4 anyway.

Disastrous weekend for the ferrari PU's if Zhou's issue was PU related. Sainz seemed more hydraulic or gearbox rather than a PU problem from the sounds of it.

Does anyone have a count of what components have failed so far for Ferrari?

I know charles has lost 1x PU, 1x turbo and 1x MGU-K from memory.

And now Magnussen

Sounded like a turbo failure

... and 4 Ferrari powered retirements in 1 race; Absolutely ridiculous.

Is it possible that all this porposing is causing Ferrari's reliability issues potentially? More so on the F1-75 and the Haas, maybe a bit lesser so on the Alfa Romeo...

Ferrari need to make changes to that power unit. Fast but unreliable.
Since the freeze, what are they allowed to change ?

can change anything for reliability, just need to send FIA documents proving that what you are planning to change is for reliability.

And I doubt there's a need for proof that the engine is unreliable after this race.

So, what's next for them? Next race is next week.Leclerc will have fresh PU (probably penalty incoming because of TC and H). Will they revert to PU1 power levels?

From the onboard sounds, there is definitely ICE problem on Lec, and Magnussen had similar sound like Lec in Spain (TC-H)

Ive tried to compile Ferrari powered team race results (havent included Free practice) where there have been failures. Hopefully those who follow Ferrari PU (and elements) can add to the list where there have been failures. I think I'm right with the PU failures, but not sure on the other component issues.

Wasn't MGU-K but MGU-H in Barcelona, MGU-K is connected to the ICE while MGU-H is connected to the turbo that overheated and potentially damaged both.

Zhou didn't have a PU failure, the component that failed in his car isn't even Ferrari-made.
