Honda Launches Turn-Key Civic Si Race Car!
Directly from the factory, you can now order a Civic Si race car. Turn key and race, quite literally!
Racing is never cheap, but Honda might have a viable option for those looking to race amongst the pros. The new FE1 Civic Si race car has just been revealed, and at $55,000, it’s actually quite a steal, too. So what do you get for the $18,000 over MSRP? A lot, actually.
Honda’s HPD department starts with an FE1 shell. First thing to go is the sunroof, with sound proofing, insulation, and underbody coating gone as well. From there, all of the Honda Performance Development parts are added.
Engine wise, you’re looking at the standard issue L15CA 1.5 turbo. Which is actually a good thing. Engine longevity is important in racing and the more you change on an engine, the shorter its life gets. Backing up the engine is an HPD strengthened 6-speed manual, particularly 4th gear. Cusco also supplies the limited slip differential, too. Flywheel and clutch? All OEM.
Suspension comes from Bilstein and is double-adjustable coilover units. Front units have adjustable camber/caster plates, and rear has adjustable camber, toe and spring perches. Spring rates are picked from two options. Brakes are upgraded at the front to Wilwood 6-piston calipers with 328mm rotors. Rear rotors and calipers are OEM, with Pagid pads front and rear.
As usual, all the safety equipment is there, too. OPM supplies a majority of the equipment. Seats, steering wheel and quick disconnect, 6-point harness, and the fire suppression system are all OMP. It has all of the key hardware, too. Data and telemetry are critically important on a race car, and the FE1 race car has MOTEC dash/data logger. Perfect for post-session driver analysis.
At 2,600 pounds, it’s a couple hundred pounds lighter than a stock Si. Impressive when you account for the weight of an FiA approved roll cage.
Impressively, there’s a lot of OEM items still on the car. It just goes to show how much the Civic Si is a great performer right from the showroom floor. And now if you want to make your TCA racing dreams come true, Honda’s got you covered.
