Lando said himself that he burned up his tyres somewhat early in the race fighting Albon so struggled a bit afterwards. Daniel did indeed have the pace to keep up with Lando and perhaps could have got closer to Bottas but would have struggled to pass with the mini DRS train.

I don't think there was anything more than 11th and 12th on the cards in the sprint though. Hopefully Daniel shows the same pace later today- it's a good headache for the team to have!
Agreed. I still think it was crazy of Mclaren to not let Daniel take a swing at Bottas and then swap back if he couldn’t get by.

McLaren testing at Portimao

(google translate)
Before the French GP the Woking team will be at Castellet with the MCL35 because they reserved the French track for five days divided into two sessions. There will be no official drivers, but Colton Herta, the simulator tester, Will Stevens and then Jehan Daruvala, Formula 2 driver of the Prema team. Brown and Siedl are starting to plan for the future and Liberty Media also likes the idea of having an American host.

Norris couldn’t hold on to Bottas with drs, so yes he was slower.
Norris was close in the last few laps,
To get DRS when Bottas also had DRS. But we saw how hard it was for the Mercedes to get past a ferrari engined car.
Norris spent most of the race over 3 seconds behind Bottas, Daniel spent most of the race 1/2 second behind Norris. Norris only caught Bottas at the end of the race.
I know Norris only caught him at the end, which was my query when you said he couldn't hold on to bottas with DRS.

[Rumour] [Ted Kravitz] Oscar Piastri and his manager Mark Webber are looking at potentially replacing Daniel Ricciardo at Mclaren.

Ted Kravitz: ''There are lots of rumours around as to why -as sort of signposted in the notebook back in Imola- Oscar Piastri, the Alpine reserve, has not signed for Williams and could the delay be that he and his manager Mark Webber are looking at potentially replacing Daniel Ricciardo at Mclaren despite as we said on the Notebook maybe in Canada or before, Ricciardo looking like he was going to stay, hold on to his seat for 2023. But as every race goes by and points and performance fail to really come in for Daniel Ricciardo. Maybe it looks more like, actually, Mclaren will come in with a late offer for Oscar Piastri and nick him from under Williams' nose and offer him Daniel Ricciardo's seat for 2023.''

''That is just talk around the paddock. We know not much more about what is going on behind the smoked glass here at this motorhome. But, just keeping you up to date with some of the rumours around. Obviously, that would leave Daniel Ricciardo maybe going to drive for Mclaren somewhere else (in one of their other racing series) or doing something else altogether. But, yeah good luck to Danny Ric as he continues to, well as someone once said, drive to survive in Formula 1.''
Starts from 1:12.

So you watched a race where Daniel was clearly faster and yet you somehow deduced that he will be slower in the next race at the same track! That is a Serious logic fail!
Not sure he was clearly faster. He was maybe faster, but he did have lots of DRS. So it was hard to judge.
Norris couldn’t hold on to Bottas with drs, so yes he was slower.
Why create facts that don’t exist? Norris couldn’t hold on to Bottas with DRS? Norris was never in Bottas DRS

Honestly, they should have tried the swap. Absolutely nothing to lose in that scenario and it would have been a confidence boost for Daniel.

No idea why they ignored him. If you look at the radio transcripts it makes it worse because they never gave Daniel a clear response.

A shitty way to handle the situation.

Was a shitty way to handle the situation, but clearly the team didn't think he actually would be faster in clear air. Anyway, lets hope for some luck in the race today, we desperately need points if we are to have any hope at all of keeping P4.

I am noticing that we gain a lot of time in the turn part of the circuit and lose a lot in the straights again.

Compared to Alpine and even Haas as this is who we are racing. We are losing a lot of time in those straights. It will be hard to keep that 4th with that drag decifit.

Are you watching the timing? They are not losing time in the straights… S1 without DRS is the same as Alpine and Mercedes without it… You can’t compare it with the Haas that were in DRS

There isn’t a lot of time loss in the high speed portion of the lap against those cars.
