What if Ferrari are sandbagging?
With all tactical things considered, if Verstappen gets confident with pole (maybe) and the Ferraris are quicker in the race, he loses his cool...This is what I think happened in Austria

They very well could be, but from yesterday in practice compared to today, Red Bull (Max) looked very nicely hooked-up... even more so than the Ferraris did. There is a chance Ferrari are running the engine way down in each session due to the heat and more reliability concerns... but that still doesn't account for the Race-Pace and Tyre Degradation difference.

Also, Max loosing his cool in Austria? Cannot recall that happening... just a weekend where Ferrari was the better overall race car and Max had to settle for 3rd (became 2nd with the Sainz flame display). That could be attributed to the fact that they only had 1 Practice session in the Austria Sprint format before the cars were locked into Parc Ferme (Stupid Rule); Ferrari might've just had the better initial setup and Red Bull had little to no chance to rectify theirs.

Sainz is an interesting point... having a new power unit installed could explain why he's got a bit more pace this weekend over Charles. In saying that, he could get a second lap out of the tyres and do a decent lap too... compared to Charles anyway.

Only pity is he is starting at the other end of the grid; Hopefully he can make some progress in the race and score points... potential Top 6 still.

Johnny comeLately is a certified trademarked Max hater. He always goes out of his way for a derogatory comment. The fact that Max was able to hang on to the sprint win with that tire dag was him way beyond keeping it cool. Knowing what tire deg they had you can only tip your hat.

That should be possible. And with some SC luck even higher up.

Don't think they are sandbagging but after RB struggled on their tyres in Austria a few weeks ago it leaves a big question mark over the have they sorted it out. RB seemed a lot better today than yesterday but a lot to still happen.

You can’t even run the enige turned down in FP3, the power settings are frozen for the rest of the weekend from FP3 onwards.

Pretty sure the cars go into Parc Ferme (Normal Grand Prix weekend) once they leave the pitlane and enter the track for Q1. Then, aside from a few minor tweaks... everything else is effectively locked in (ICE Modes included).

I was under that impression, can someone say conclusively, can’t find it online.

Would make sense as Sainz is then probably in a higher mode with his new unit and leclerc has to save his as much as possible.

I know they are (now) allowed to change the PU under parc ferme (like for like) so leclerc can use one of his 2 new PUs per Canada as qualy PU exclusively.

7 tenths is still a lot of time if it's just engine mode, it was also 7 tenths in the race pace sims. (to Leclerc). Just accept that Verstappen will get pole and will most likely win tomorrow, the track just suits him better. Hungaroring perhaps we'll see Merc and Ferrari step back in due to high downforce requirement.
