Interesting point. How come the other teams with slim sidepods, like Williams & McLaren, have instead adopted wider, downwashing sidepods? :?: Leaving 9 out of 10 teams deciding against the Mercedes route.

If the 25mm floor raise for 2023 will render the wide, downwashing sidepod solution no longer effective, that would seem a very unfair intervention from the FIA given the development efforts the overwhelming majority of constructors have made towards that design.

I don't really think so, there have always been reports like this over the past years. Manufacturers just bring a certain amount of spare engines each weekend, especially for the customer teams.

I was more thinking about Merc development of 2022 base car and zero-pods during 2021 and pre-season 2022. Other teams have made changes during this year, having seen other cars in action.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Yeah its huge contrast comparing to the decades ago. When Binnoto i think said in 1998 Suzuka GP Ferrari got on circuit 16-18 engines ready just on side... Bonkers

But you shure like to bring it up. I thought you liked racing instead of disliked RB. We've had enough DNFs from the front runners already. I'd rather see good fights on track for all races to come than DNFs.

Max Verstappen is on track to become a fine back-to-back double champion like Fernando Alonso circa 2006 or Michael Schumacher circa 1995, but there is a long way to go yet! :)

Misfortunate for either Leclerc or Verstappen is definitely not what anyone wants! IIRC, they are even on DNFs with both having two mechanical failures, hopefully there are NO more failures or DNFs for either driver.

These Pirelli strategy predictions almost always seem to be completely wrong both in stint length and order of compounds run, although thank you very much for posting it. :)

True! I cant see RB going for a 2 stopper today, but the wisest move would be to split the strategy with one of the drivers depending on how tyre deg looks.

Ferrari a bit on their own this time round, not enough of the same tyres to copy red bull by pitting a lap later like they have in previous races, so their strategy is going to have to be on point today with Charles to cover off RB who love a risky strategy curevball. A late SC will benefit them if they can stick the mediums on.

However, if the hard tyre has better deg than the medium then could vastly fall in RB's (and the rest of the teams' favour.

Seems like Aston Martin didn't learn much from Montreal. They are basically comitted to a one-stopper again, and in case of a late safety car (but too early for softs), they have nothing at all to put on the car. Same for Ricciardo.

I missed that! They either going to start on new softs (unlikely) or start on a used tyre. Wonder what mileage is on them. I presume if its a scrubbing in lap, then not too bad.

Just a hint: You might want to expand the images and then copy the links so it's not just the tiny thumbnails, the res. here is 500x281 and it kinda works well enough for the strats

When you have the actual link it has the size setting at the very end

I think I recall hearing on one of the short items (SKy) that they found it helpful to 'scrub' all the tyres as heat cycle improved them. When they are down as used, I don't think it means much taken out of them, just the opposite

Yeah, I can’t see teams falling short of tyre allocation. That’s the basics!
