His tyres were gone and there was no point continuing when there was an opportunity to pit. He would have still been ahead of Max. They just had to cover Max.

Leclerc's mistake was not strategic, he lost rear.
Sainz why they pitted him only god knows , if they had doubts with tyres then should have asked him not to be too aggressive with perez. That strategy team is a joke.

At Imola, Ferrari played it safe and everyone blamed his crash on Ferrari for pitting for new tires. Now he was out too long on old tires.

At Imola Charles/Ferrari were racing against Checo for 3 PTS (3rd vs 2nd). At french GP Charles was racing max for P1 which is a 14 point swing. They were very aggressive at Imola for a small possible reward which is why it was criticized

I doubt Sainz could have made it with no pits, the front left was damaged and T10 takes a lot out of the tire.
