Aston Martin AMR22

Probably only has use at high DF tracks.

Looks hideous. Gonna be great if it works.

It will likely be banned with a TD after this race.
It will be banned almost instantly.

Shame they use resources for that stuff. I think not smart if look at overall performance. Anyway not mine decision.

Tho that flap could do quite big job as those "grils" couple yrs ago did. So penalty from increased frontal area should be quite easily clawed back with total reduction on whole tip wing vortex strenght and "fencing" overspill.

I also think this will get banned immediately. Its completely against what the rules tried to achieve, even if its very clever and smart.
Isn't this just another example of "it meets the wording of the rules so it's legal", however? It's no different to other things that are being argued elsewhere as being legal. If they don't want people putting additional endplates on the rear wing then they need to rewrite the relevant part of the tech regs for next year.

Looks like it will produce significantly more drag. Strange development.
Why? It’s a fairly small area on the wing, which in and of itself is a large contributor of drag.

Not certain that I like how it looks, but if it works (it looks to be totally legal), then hats-off to the boys and girls in the AM aero department.
I wonder if something similar is possible with the front wing?

Well the front wing already has endplates so that would be a bit pointless.

I think its a great innovation and it will make the main plane generate more downforce as it stops pressure spillage on the sides.

It will bring drag (maybe not?), but much more downforce.

I would not close the cylinder (i.e. open the front face if regs allow) even have a larger cylinder (>20mm) and manipulate the velocity by squeezing the radius.

Dont be surpised if we see something like this on the side pods.

Yes it is indeed - as the rules are now - its completely legal. But as it is not what was intended with the new rules - there will probably be a TD soon, that will ban solutions like this. This is F1. The engineers exploit the loopholes and grey areas. And the FIA often "closes" these loopholes by rewriting the regulations and by TD.

So a specification that only brings advantages in Hungary and Monaco.

I like it tbh. Top work by the guys at AM to push the rulebook.

This is no different to any other thing on the grid really. Merc mirror 'supports', the merc side pods...and im sure you could find more pushing the boundaries if you looked at the cars hard enough.

If AM have conversed with the FIA throughout this, then I cant see any reason for it to be closed down.
