Anyone know why Ferrari were slow on the softs too. I didn't expect Sainz to be overtaken by Hamilton running the same tyre who was 9/10s behind on lap 54ish

Same reason as why they were slow in quali. Couldn't switch them on well. But to be clear, LEC was the fastest car on track in the last stint.

Lat 54 to 70, average lap times for the drivers here:
LEC: 1.22.320
HAM: 1.22.560
VER: 1.23.324
SAI: 1.23.647

Aside from the stint on hards, LEC was consistently the fastest average pace in the race.

EDIT: updated graph with average laps rather than 90%ile laps, average laps in the race remain unchanged of course.

Wow amazing data mate appreciate that info. So it was more Sainz that was slow and as you say not switching on the softs.

So much performance is linked to the tyres and it seems teams still learning about them this year.

not sure what your edit means so apologies in advance if it covers this but can we accurately say Lec was fastest in the last stint? Surely there's too much traffic around with lapped cars spread throughout the field. Granted they all had to deal with lapped cars but it depends where they come across them and how long before they got past.

I know that works in reverse too and could mean that Ham, Ver & Sai were all very lucky with traffic and Lec had terrible traffic yet was still fastest.

Just means that in the drawing of the diagrams of speed and such, rather than the average value for the driver I had put the 90%ile, so the value where 90% of the laps were worse than that.

The average time in the text of the post is correct.

I haven't checked traffic, but more likely it was rain that contributed to any pace changes.

Also HAM was the only one with more than a couple laps with DRS so I doubt there was much traffic, and given HAM passed SAI and RUS it probably helped him to get the DRS

HAM overtook one slow ferrari and one slow Mercedes. 2-3 laps he couldnt show his true pace because of overtaking and sitting under slower cars. In addition firs 2-3 laps he bedded the tires under the guidance of the team

So if we take out all the laps were the car was slow, and say the laps where he had DRS were also slow, then it’s fast?

Why the saltiness against the Brits?
I did not sense any kind of bias. Lewis and George were the dark horses for the race, and were the only two of the top 6 cars that were doing stuff to spoil the party at the front.
The commentators have a duty to hype the race down to the last lap.

And no redbull is not shutting them up with results. Redbull is a British team. In fact redbull are expected to defend their championship this year.
I really don't see the need for the anti UK sentiment for such a good race today.
Its clear to see Sky are against Red Bull. Jeez, just look at herberts comments on Max after his interview on the F1 show.
And yet the Sky team talk to Horner most races, often several times a race, and hang on his every word, never challenging anything he says. If there is a bias, it's towards Horner and his team.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Nah, no way bias to Red Bull. How is it bias if one guy talks to one team principle more than the others, but yet you got presenters doing the exact opposite.

I mean:

"are you being handed this championship"

If we count the laps where he had to wait behind Sainz and Russel for The whole laps, yes those laps were slower

So who came out best from " Are you being handed the championship?" FFF.. Are we live on air??
Horner needs no kid gloves he is up for a squabble any time and not often he comes out second.

I recon he is pleased he was asked that and it will be shown around the world with his Red Bull kit on

Every time Crofty says the wrong driver he makes me want to throttle him. He does it so much like today with Hamilton and Russell, and it went on for so long. Hamilton was not even close to the battle at the time
Croft makes so many mistakes. Sure, Murray Walker used to too, but he was much older and had been doing it for years - he started commentating in 1948 - and so could be forgiven for messing up names now and then. But Croft is just hopeless.

I met Murry many times, he was a lovely guy you can forgive him a lot.

Totally shocking question to ask really. What a way to undermine the efforts and hard work of all the team who work flat out throughout the season, from pitstops, garage mechanics, strategists, drivers etc etc.
