Alonso said this before the race at an event to the crowd about how many more seasons.. “four or five” . Bet they had no idea why he was so confident lol

Aston Martin aren't going anywhere. Alpine probably aren't either. Alonso is destined to scrap around in the midfield.
AM can't really regress further, can they? They are spending first class money for first class targets. I see Alpine as trying to spend economy class money but expecting a first class target.

I'm wondering if the Strolls are revelling in the mess Alpine/Otmar are currently in with their driver line up.
For sure.. any distractions for them can only benefit Aston Martin especially next year.

IF AM got everything wright and challenge for WDC, will stroll allow Alonso? or ask him to support his Son. Alonso in tricky situation with AM. you cannot complain Team owners Son. Alonso may around AM 2 years and jump another ship for Top team if any opening in 2025.

This line of thinking needs to end.. If Lawrence wanted his son to be number 1 they would have just signed a Schumacher or driver that younger Stroll could manage. Alonso and both Strolls are very good friends and they are Alonso fans.. papa stroll wants his team to be number 1, that’s why he went after Alonso in the first place and why he is investing in the new factory and wind tunnel . :)

I don't think Stroll can even remotely stay with Alonso. When that day comes, Alonso will know it's time to retire.

It’s a win win win win situation.

Win for Aston Martin and Stroll Senior. Alonso is still one of the top 5 drivers on the grid and is perfect for Aston Martins marketing campaigns. Much better to position then Seb… And who knows, maybe Alonso will stay at Aston Martin after his retirement…

Win for Stroll Junior. He can learn from Alonso.

Win for Alonso because he has at least two additional seasons plus a one year option to stay in Formula 1.

Win for all F1 Fans. If you like Alonso or not: He is a Legend, a strong character, he is entertaining, he loves F1 and he is a great driver.

The only concern that I have is that Aston Martin will not be able to build a car that can compete with the top 3 in the next 2-3 years… what would lead to frustration for Alonso.

in some way you are right but we never know what stroll(papa) thinking on his mind. They need Champion driver in their car at any cost. Hoping all good for Alonso and keep on seeing him podium in 2023 on wards.

I also believe that this is Alonso's best decision in his career. Let see.

I agree it’s his best decision.. no team even compared to the top is investing this much in new facilities. The proof is in the pudding but it’s nice to see Alonso in a team that can match the investments of the top teams. It’s only happened once before and only for one year.

One cannot be unlucky with every career move. Eventually one of them has to be a lucky break. I hope it is for Alonso.

Lol. If they Challenge it will only be car number 14 doing the challenging.

Alonso is the "surprise of the year" for Marko: "He is still capable of winning"
Full article:

Helmut Marko has been very surprised by the performance shown by Fernando Alonso this season. The former Austrian driver wanted to highlight the Asturian as the "surprise of the year" and has not hesitated to ensure that he is still a driver capable of winning races.

Fernando returned to Formula 1 last year and, after the relevant period of adaptation, he had great performances, such as in Hungary, Russia or Qatar -podium included.

But this year he has shown that he still has rope for a while. 100% adapted to his single-seater, the man from Oviedo has left everyone speechless on several occasions –such as in the Australian or Canadian classifications–, although the Championship says otherwise… due to various mechanical breakdowns.

Fernando Alonso's performance has not gone unnoticed by Helmut Marko. The Red Bull adviser has been full of praise for the two-time Formula 1 world champion, whom he still sees as a potential race winner… as long as Aston Martin gives him a car to do it.

"He – Alonso – is very fast. It's unbelievable the kind of races he is capable of doing. For me, it is the surprise of the year and I even think that as a driver he is still capable of winning. The only question is whether Aston Martin can provide you with the package," Marko said in an interview with Oe24.at.

As Doctor Marko rightly says, the key will be to have a car capable of fighting for titles in the future... and that is where Lawrence Stroll's project for 2025 comes into play.

On the other hand, Marko sees Sebastian Vettel's withdrawal as "logical", since he now has "other priorities" and, furthermore, has no chance of winning races or getting on the podium with the AMR22.

Alonso gets more support from other teams than his own one.. unbelievable. He made the right call.

It's a roll of a dice, which car will be faster next year. So from that side there is no real edge , one way or the other. I also get that Otmar's language at times was favouring Ocon...

Forget the Piastri saga, Fernando has nothing to do with that. He does not write those contracts, nor is responsible for knowing what's in those contracts. Let's just not forget that Alpine opened the door for Alonso to make his comeback. Just for that, I think, they deserved fair warning that he was leaving.

Not the same management (and Alonso had an offer from Aston Martin back then too, he put his trust in them and they let him down).. this current ageism management treated him badly for all his efforts.. Piastri saw and did the same thing as Alonso giving them no warning because they were trying to trick Alonso into a 1+1 with no intention of giving him the plus. Alonso being the wily old fox wasn’t dumb enough to take the bait. In the end Alpine paid the price and rightfully so.

I think the fact that you don't have a contract signed is a fair warning. When Otmar says he's was surprised by Alonso leaving, what he means is that he's surprised Alonso found an option he liked.

Alpine was banking on the fact that Alonso would not have an option that he would like. Otmar was openly criticizing Alonso, out of context, trying to negotiate against him publicly.

And it's also pretty rich for Alpine to complain about being blindsided when they took the hatchet to Prost and Budkowski in the middle of the night
