a bit of a clumsy move be Ferrari there, but didn't change anything at all for Leclerc. If at all, he is even in a better position than he would have been with a new tyre run, as he now has the same sets available for tomorrow as Verstappen
But did he get a used set? I thought I saw a new set, might that have been his last, or an extra set they wanted for the race?
ah, I thought so, as that's what it said on the timing. But he still has another new set for the race nonetheless (Verstappen has 2)

edit: but yeah, just checked on F1TV, and it was new set - so live timing was wrong about that. If it was correct otherwise, he used 3 sets in total, and still has another one for the race.

I didn’t knew the remaining sets, so both can start on red but an end stint on fresh red after a late SC is now not an option for Charles.

I have a feeling, Ferrari doesn't even talk about strategy in their weekend buildup. They just walk in and play they way they see it fit. When Leclerc asked why he is on a new set, his engineer calmly says, "it was mistake" and late on the out lap, they tell him to go for a flying lap.

I have to say that I was wrong on Albono. I don’t particularly rate his wheel to wheel racing but there is no doubt he has the ability and talent to drive an F1 car fast. Massive respect for his performance here, he was hustling that car through S2 and S3 building on that mighty S1. He’ll be tough to pass as long as he has a good drive out of turn 1

This year is a deinifetely a boring one. I have lost interest in lots of things. The title fight is basically done.
Wonder what do you think about most of the past 8 years >__>
to be fair at least for most of those years there was an intra team battle and ferrari to make things interesting for most of the year. this year its max running away, ferrari imploding, perez being shafted today, and merc in recovery mode... its a while since we had such a year. 2013 perhaps?

Sainz was slower with tow than without it. Just incredibly difficult to get right. They opted not to do so.

Ferrari imploding is exactly whats happening this year. I'd say today is the first time this year that we see a utterly dominant RedBull. Remember Austria?

They were a gazillion times more boring with just 1 team being 1,8 second in front. I think this is the first time Max takes a pole with this kind of a difference? (Even if it is a long track, making it relatively bigger).
Realistically, it'll be a travesty if Verstappen doesn't win this race being so far ahead pace-wise. We know for sure when he catches up to Perez he'll make way...

It's just the way it is in this sport. The 2014-2020 years had an all-time great destroying everyone including some esteemed teammates. Now the past 2 years we have another all-time great in Verstappen destroying the whole field. 2010-2013 it was Vettel. 2000-2004 it was Schumacher. 2005-2006 Alonso...

Others are just better than others I think it is what we must internalise as we watch these races. Seldom do we actually see realistic and close title fights - at least in this century.

This season has been close so far. This track was going to be a redbull track. Especially in the cold. Monaco was for Ferrari in similar fashion. Only in Austria they were rolling up the field.

2013 is actually a good comparison, Vettel won 13 races total. He won all of the last 9 races after a slower start to the season, Mercedes took 8 poles compared to Redbull's 11 (8 taken in the last 8 races of the season). His teammate was nowhere as well.

I wish I had this level of optimism. 80 points after 13 races are not what many would consider close, especially when it's Verstappen in the lead, the best driver in the field - can't see it getting any less dominant.

Red Bull does not even have their lighter monocoque in the car yet, right? So add another 0.5s when that is in there, and we are in for a fantastically tense and exciting remainder of the season.

No, i don’t think so either, especially as Max is already 80 points up despite not having a dominant car yet. Today he did. But points are tomorrow, dangerous first corner, what will the weather do, SC or not?
