One could argue there is no need for Max to take the new spec this year. The car is plenty fast. It doesn't make sense to me that they would have used Max as the guinea pig and especially since Alpha Tauri have been having so many issues.

On the back of the ERS. Yuki needed a pitlane start which typically means the components are of a different spec. On looking at the ‘offence’, a new mgu-k and -h were taken. So it could be some of the newer parts of the ERS system. But I’m not 100% sure.

I don’t think RB would be stupid enough to do similar after quali to put a new system in. Take the full lot at the start less obvious it’s the latest spec

ATs issues are important to point out. It is almost without doubt that Honda would put the new parts in the AT cars first and AT had issues. I'm not convinced Max has new specification and I don't think he'll even use it this season. He doesn't really need to at this point.

Nope, is allowed nowadays "An update has been made allowing a Power Unit to be replaced in Parc Fermé with one of a newer specification"

To think, they started this season with a double DNF. Now they are powersliding across the checkered flag with a 30% points lead to second.

Max says the new chassis will come "later in the year". So it's publicly acknowledged it exists

If either car hasn’t took the new unit, I imagine Max will take it given he has the WDC 95% wrapped up. Perez needs all the grid places and points he can get in order to secure 2nd place in the WDC.

If Marko is to believe, there is no further penalties down the line for Max.


It will also be interesting to see what they do going forward now, we seen 2 different spec floors run this weekend in front the rear wheel so be interesting to see which path they go down in future.

The only penalty i can see for Max is a gear box penalty. He is still thin on those.

I don't think we should expect anywhere near this sort of pace advantage at other tracks. Maybe Zandvoort will look favourable too as it's bumpy and may compromise cars like Merc & Ferrari who run a low ride.

AMuS reports the problems for Merc and Ferrari primarily caused by ride height compromise to deal with eau rouge and bumps between T14&15 . Whereas RB often run their car high so they didn't have a problem there and their car was in its regular window

I think things will be back to being close after Monza, though the new chassis may make things a bit easier
