He is not worried at all, its 'new Max' this year. He is not that concerned with winning races, his target is now titles.
Same for corners and conflicts. He will let a corner or conflict go to give him points rather than risk all.
We are seeing a far better racer

There's no phenomenon, no Toto misleading anyone, one really just has to watch the onboard footage - Lewis was behind when leaving T10, was behind before entering the chicane, was even when leaving it and ahead before braking for T13:

He just nailed 11/12.

That's a damn shame. But it is what it is. Let's see if he can make the race exciting - unlike Spa.

Better comparison might be Hamilton with leclerc, as max consistently loses a chunk of time at 11/12 to all of the others and makes it back on the final corner/run to the line (different choice of line/setup).

At the point before lewis lifted he was up on max but if you look at how much he'd lose to max through the final part of s3, lewis was looking at fighting Sainz for p3 not the front row

Yes. The Merc's consistently lost 2-3 tenths on the run to the line relative to RB, and around 1 tenth relative to Ferrari. This comparison shows Hamilton is close, but he would have needed to be further ahead at that point to truly challenge for the front row. Because that gap right there is probably only a few hundredths.

Telemetry shows that he lifted after turn 13. At the point he lifted off he had already lost the time he was ahead. He would have probably been fighting Sainz for P3

Oh yea i'm not arguing that he would have been on pole but there has been a lot of stuff written here without any actual facts being posted.

Lewis in the Merc debrief saw it realistically:
That final lap was a good one, coming into the final sector I was definitely up and I saw the car facing the opposite direction and had to lift, that lap could have been good enough for at least third but I’ll see if I can replace that tomorrow.
Whilst Toto was a bit more ... optimistic:
[...] we were a tenth up on Verstappen and Leclerc so Lewis was in contention for the pole here. Unfortunately, Checo pushed it a lot and lost it but it’s not his fault. It’s just a decision you take, you can lose pole position because of a yellow or you can lose the pole by a few hundredths having run first - afterwards you always know better.
Contention does not mean surely getting it tho ... i wonder whether the "you can lose the pole by a few hundredths having run first" part is about LEC being first on track?

Stroll and Perez had to switch back to an older PU. No penalty, but both should be fairly old

Sounds like Binotto is more keen on beating Mercedes than challenging Max from that pre-race interview

Leclerc takes out Max.

Perez win, Hamilton second and Sainz third due to a Ferrari mistake.
