So generally I'm curious. At the moment Daniel has a contract till the end of 2022 and we can always borrow Piastri for a reserve driver. Piastri is not use to Alpine now so they might as well release him. My opinion is that if Daniel doesn't have any interest anymore then they should give some opportunities to Piastri this year.
On another note what's with Ferrari? They are doing the best they can to lose 2nd place in the championship.
I don't think Daniel is willing to give up his seat for free, otherwise he'd probably already be out. As for Piastri, if Alpine just give him to McLaren now, he'll have more time to get to know the team and the car, so that's an advantage that Alpine would give their competitor for free. My guess is they'll probably put him in some sort of gardening leave, where he won't do much work for Alpine that can help him grow (unless it's guaranteed by contract), and let him leave for McLaren as late as they can.
