Watching the Ferrari seeming to porpoise through fast chicane is crazy.

This is going to be pretty close to Spa. Verstappen without engine penalties will lap everybody up to 3rd or 4th place.
The only glimmer of hope of this not being the case is the different aero philosophies (and ride height compromises) required between Spa and Monza. It does seem to be the case that the ride height adjustments made by nearly the entirety of the grid at Spa greatly affected the gap of the Red Bulls to the rest.

I know Monza has typically been a processional type race in the recent past (10 or so years), but I am very curious (maybe more so optimistically hopeful?) to see how the new cars change that. We should be seeing cars being able to stick right tight to the leading car through the parabolica, which again should bring about a better overtaking opportunity. The teams must be thinking this way as well, if they are electing to take a bunch of grid penalties here. Then again Singapore is next on the list, and you sure as heck don't want to be taking any self-inflicted penalties there, so Monza may just be the compromise.

Side note... I got the chance to visit Monza (and Imola) when I was across the pond back in July. I can't even begin to describe the feeling of walking the inner workings of the track, and along/behind the old track and banking. Simply surreal. I couldn't even walk up past the half way point of the banking because of how severe an angle it is at. I would have had to crawl the rest of the way!

Bonus points for whoever did the Montoya graffiti =D>

Quali pole time low 1.20, high 1.19 perhaps?. Looks like these cars are quite rapid in Monza

If Verstappen finishes at least 3rd in the remaining 7 races, he will break the record fir points in a season, and the record for podiums in a season (which he set last year). If he even wins 4 more races he will break the record for wins in a season. He will also surpass Nigel Mansel and Alonso for all-time wins and will have won all the races before age 25!

All of these things are essentially inevitable. And more his teammate will have only won 1 race all-season long imagine the dominance. Not even Hamilton or Vettel or Schumacher was this dominant. Only a matter of time before people start hating RedBull again like the Vettel days.
Schumacher (and Ferrari as team) was definitely this dominant in 2001 and 2002, the separator is the points difference then and now for a win (10 vs. 25), and drastically reduced number of races in a season back then.

2001 - 9 wins out of 17 races
2002 - 11 wins out of 17 races, 17/17 podiums!

I think we also tend to forget just how dominant Ferrari also was in the reliability category, specifically on the power unit side. I mean, just take a look at the sea of purple (looks more pink to me, but hey Wikipedia is always correct!) in this results summary!

Dont know if its been mentioned but the Ferrari colours look great.
Most cars are turning in crisply on the high speeds despite the low aero, nice

So Ferrari’s first solid run on Softs in FP1, Charles goes half a second ahead of Max who was lapping continuously on a set of Hards.

Seems a bit ominous…

Verstappen would have easily taken first without Norris getting in his way. He was 2 tenths quicker than Leclerc after S2 already.

Ver's penalty is only 5 places. If he takes pole with lec, ham, sai, rus and per behind him (hypothetically), he starts 2nd or 3rh behind Lec and/or rus anyway. Rus will be sitting duck, then it's a fight with lec. Lots of assumptions made here, but that's how it would be.
does hamilton need to run in quali(any sessions) if he's back of the grid? asking this because of the rules I don't know
in theory, he needs to set a time within 107% to qualify for the race, but I don't think this has ever been enforced.

He still fights the other "back of the grid" cars for starting position, though, so it makes sense to do qualifying until a certain point at least.
I think they've used practice times to allow cars to race that didn't run in qualifying.

yeah, but not sure what happens if he deliberately wouldn't run any sessions at all. Not that it makes sense anyway, but I guess he'd not be allowed to start then.

So why is Max taking another ICE when just took a new one 2 races ago like Charles and George? Seems a bit risky starting in the pack heading down to turn one unless they ran ICE4 on 11 for those two races.
