Why bring Max into this at all?
What does it matter for him anyway - he would easily have won without the safety car. If anything, this gives Charles another chance where otherwise he had none.

Not when they delay the SC and Max gets yet another very handy free stop.

The effect of the delay was that both Max and Charles passed the pit already, while Russell and Sainz got an immediate stop. Why seek controversy when there is none?

I'm annoyed as anyone by the SC being called so late in an obvious situation (because it also is unsafe), but trying to angle this as helping Max is just ridiculous.

Didn't make a difference and wouldn't have made a difference even if they were faster. The issue was they couldn't move the stranded Mclaren by hand. So there was no way they could bring the SC back in before the race has ended.

Like Abu Dhabi 2021, any Safety Car call within 5 laps of the end should default to a Red Flag, and standing restart.
