I have a bias..
partly tongue in cheek, but does anyone else imagine a sock being stuffed into David Croft's mouth?
Are you sure it's a bias and not a fetish?

Interesting running today. I was expecting the Ferrari's to be much closer but it looks like they're not comfortable at the moment. I wonder if the Merc's pace is real or if they've turned up the engine for this.
Merc were the only team to run a new set of inters in FP2 iirc. Others in Fp2 used same set of inters that they ran in drying conditions in FP1. No surprise to see Merc that far ahead given this. Ferrari are struggling yes with balance and with brake issues for Leclerc

With such weather condition, its hard to tell if teams are struggling or not pushing

I see. I did not catch FP1 and was only on towards the second half of FP2 so I did not know what tires they all ran. I thought their first runs (when Lewis was ahead) was with old Inters but they switched later ending with George ahead?

I wasn't paying much attention because I was working while FP1 and 2 were happening.

Merc did (likely) a low fuel run (performance test) when they were the 8 tenths up on Max. Max had just gone out again and took P1 when the Mercs did a outlap hotlap inlap and both bettered Max.

Both Merc drivers said they didn't know where they were in terms of real pace, but expect it's not likely to be P1 and P2.

Magnussen used new inters as well in FP2, but that's it, yeah.

Pretty sure Mercedes mainly did those runs (two runs of 3 laps each) to rubber in the tyres for Sunday, though. Hamilton complained about the new inters not getting up to temperature last week.

edit: here's the screenshot as well. They even went back to the old tyres from FP1 after rubbering them in

Nothing surprises me nowadays. Stefano Domenicali has just recently claimed points should be made available for Friday practice sessions (jesus christ), with results turned into a qualifying structure for a Saturday morning reverse grid race. (Oh dear god)

Can only fear what F1 will eventually turn into over the next decade.

As for the race, glad it will be dry. Just want to see a clean race, no SC interruptions, and drivers just either rewarded or punished for their performances.
You mean - rewarded or punished for their car performances.

Mario Isola also mentioned that next year in two races they will trial only giving teams:

- 2x hard tyres for Q1,
- 2x mediums for Q2,
- 2x softs for Q3.
More artificial bullshitery. The sport has become too "Woke"!
What has daft tyre allocations got to do with racial and social injustice?

:?
I feel repressed by the tire allocation.

Just finished talking with an old colleague who is at Suzuka, about 08;00 local time. He said it has been raining non-stop since 6 and looks like rain off and on all day today. I still wish I was there instead of Atlanta.
Anywhere is better than Atlanta! I hope we get to see Honda victory this weekend and both Championships won on 'home' soil. Weather looks better for qualifying and the race.
