Alpha Tauri AT03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It may not look like it exactly but I think there is a bargeboard there, it's just not big; the angle makes it look like it's not really extending beyond the floor leading edge, but I think it does a bit. But yes, you're right it's a much smaller bargeboard than most teams run now. Way smaller.
+1 I'd upvote but the code is broken (that or a petty mod) Good overview, I was mistaken by the angle of the photo. By comparison other bargeboards f.e. RB18 don't point inward as much and don't have a bend midway. Single face vs bi-facial.

So, what of the Gasly pit fire?
are they running an injector at the turbo inlet?

Pierre also lost a bit of time with a small fire after connecting the fuel breather, which looked worse than it was, and we were able to quickly get the car back out.

 How would that be even remotely possible under the current technical regulations?

Rather than larf like a clown and make things personal, just give an opinion as to why there was a fire, which is quite the complex question at the top of the airbox.
And to be a rules based thinker prevents lateral thinking, so what is your considered opinion?
For instance is the fuel tank vented into the inlet to make use of those fumes?

I wasn't trying to insult you or make anything personal :wtf:

The fuel breather is located on the left hand side of the car just behind the halo, it's not venting into the inlet.

For a much clearer picture of the fuel filter in its location go too. ‘’why red bull has added a shelf to its engine cover’’.
What is actually pressurized is not the fuel tank but the fuel collector pod inside the fuel tank.

OK, no problem.
Strange happening though, so , one problem with very lean engines is backfire and usually through the inlet. And this often happens at shutdown.
That is why a lot of race engines cut the fuel first, before the ignition.
Maybe that process malfunctioned and maybe from a mapping error..

The above images and comments dont say what the ignition source was...
And you have to deal with the fumes during operation anyway, even road cars vent into the inlet...
And normally on explosive gas systems there are backflash devices...
The inquiry continues.

Interesting. So that hole isn't for "just" driver cooling if it has a heat sink right inside of it!

Ballast most likely to alter the weight distribution in the car. I imagine it being that far forward gives them a decent bit of scope to play with.

Maybe 24g or 240 on the embossed part in the front of the items in question?
