The pole sitter is whoever starts the Grand Prix on pole position, not necessarily the fastest time of Q or anything(btw, for many years, the fastest time of Q was from Q2, not the pole sitter time). That´s the historical statistic, no matter what anyone arbitrarily say or change rule for.
They changed the rules for 2022.

Kmag gets the pole position, the pole position award, the statistic for the books. But yes, he is likely to not start Grand prix from p1 on Sunday
.
And I don't think that's fair! He has taken pole position and others will have another chance to take it from him.
It's not normal that after you get the pole, you can lose the pole again.
I think the powers that be have also realised this and noises from paddock seem to be that sprints will be standalone events next season. At least that's what it sounds like now

still better than last year's rule, I'd say.

What's the alternative? A second qualifying, and two pole positions per (sprint) weekend? FP2 now is pointless anyway, so there could be room for it.

Possibly starting the sprint with something random, like reverse current points order, or just plain 'pot luck'?

TBH, if the sprint is to be a stand alone, why not run it on Sat with qualli and race on the same day?

maybe, yeah. Or just do whatever kind of random sprint race instead of (Friday's) FP2, without Quali before, and then continue with the normal race weekend.

But I'm not really a fan of the sprint anyway, so may just look for opportunities to get it out of the way ;)

The weather forecast is night and day from yesterday. It is now predicted to be bone dry today and tomorrow.

What happened to him? He was faster then KMAG in FP1.
Just wasn't good enough in Q1.
Would you say Lewis boy just wasn´t good enough in Q2/Q3 or would you come up with some excuse to explain his poor pace? Yeah, let´s blame it on Russell like they did with Rosberg to explain Lewis poor pace in Monaco. I wonder how Nico managed to outqualified Lewis boy on 2013,2016 as well without his dirty tricks

@The Prodigy, Mick was 4th fastest(on Inters, Tsunoda was 5th) before everybody changed for slicks. Then, it seemed both of them didn´t warm up their tyres properly and they didn´t manage to put a good first(and only) lap on Softs. Other than that it´s just bitterness from people who can´t stand his surname
I have zero problems with Mick Schumacher. I wish him all the success in the world. I'm just pointing out that his Q1 laps wasn't good enough. He made a mistake when others didn't.

As for Hamilton, he wasn't good enough either. His Q3 lap was miles behind his teammate and the others. He was struggling in Q1 and Q2 as well. If the Mercedes wasn't the 2nd/3rd best car, he'd have probably gotten knocked out.

I would say Max's Q3 lap wasn't good enough either. He made a mistake and that's why he's not on pole. Max is usually formidable in these types of conditions. It's surprising that Kmag is on pole.

The Haas is easily only the 6th or 7th best car. 9 drivers have a lot of explaining to do for why they couldn't beat him. Credit to Kmag for putting his car well above where it typically is.

Yep neither max, Lewis, or Norris nailed it in Q3 but kmag did.

Lewis didn't have any grip, max locked up at t8.

I think that makes it much easier for guys like LEclerc, Hamilton, Perez, Sainz who are or will be out of position. There would not be DRS if sprint and race are wet.

Still not sure of the rules, must they change tyres?

No tire change required for sprint, however for the Sunday race the regulation is the following:

Article 30.5 m regarding the usage of tires on Sunday GP:
Unless he has used intermediate or wet-weather tyres during the race, each driver
must use at least two different specifications of dry-weather tyres during the race,
at least one of which must be a mandatory dry-weather race tyre specification as
defined in Article 30.2c)

Thanks. I knew about the Sunday, but not the sprint.

It's like you start on pole ane after lap 1 race is red flagged and after that you can lose pole again.

On the other hand, in the absence of the sprint weekend, abbreviated setup time, and mixed conditions, it would have been extremely unlikely that Magnussen would be on pole.

If we had a normal weekend qualy would be held in the dry and Mag might not have even been in the top 10.
