wesley123 wrote:That diffuser will work really clean i guess, but i dont understadn that in fonrt of the diffuser upsweep, i believe it will actually take air away from the diffuser as the air is allowed to flow though there.

And maybe you now can make use of the 15cm centralsection behind the diffuser to create something ala toyota, i think that section could generate lots of downforce, and making the crashbox ala red bull wouldnt even need to create such a deck as you ca create an extension for it without making a complex deck.
the central fins already make use of the central 15cm zone, but I agree, a combination of red bulls solution and toyota's would work better. What would the ideal ratio be between hole size and exit area

i dont think you understnad me, i mean, after the normal diffuser ends at the oyota there comes an extra deck wich is in the 15cm rule, that deck ends at the same lenght as the crashbox.

The car is on some positions revolutionairy, but on other sections it is behnd, i stay at my opinion that the front end is way too simple, compare it to like branws, williams or other teams, they have really complex front wings and nose cones, imo the car will lack front downforce.

I understand you, the central 15cm between 35cm and 50cm behind the rear wheel centre line. Tommorow I will change the diffuser so I can have something similar to Toyota.
Regarding the front end, I have made a lot of progress on it in the last week - there is a splitter and an extra element on the underside of the front wing which is hard to see, aswell as 3 vanes. However I think I may change the endplates slightly and get rid of the inner endplate entirely

I have updated the diffuser again to include a Toyota style central section. I'll try and make some changes to the front wing and nose but I have internal exams again on monday, tuesday and wednesday and then 3 GCSE science exams in 2 weeks

wow that is looking really good, im sure that will boost downforce.

And think that your exams are way more important then a car like this, this can be done later too. Is some1 running a CFD test of this car? i would like to see some results.

Anyway, success with your Exams!

Which opening would work better aerodynamically:
the new one:
Image
The exit area is about 2.5x bigger than the hole

or the original sized opening, the size difference is alot bigger, and there is a ram effect, but will the hole be too small (ratio is about 11x bigger)

What would be the optimum area for the hole (the exit area is around 55,000mm^2 on 1 side, so 110,000mm^2 total)

i think you should combine the idea, maybe a really small cap so a little bit mroe air is forced in.

I dont really understand, do you mean like i had before - there was a small hole in the side if you look closely

I mean htat you attach a smaal duct in the hole, so to the side the holeis for 1/3d covered.

OK.... couldn't leave it alone! I wasn't happy with the section infront of the tub, under the nose... so I've added a central keel and flared it out and back with the intention that it would direct air around the sides of the tub. Also added a couple of turning vanes to further aid the air flow:-

Complete car with minor nose mod (suspension "bubbles" to cover rocker assemblies):-

Front and rear views:-

Right. That's it!

I really like those turning vanes on the underside of the nose...

@Wesley I still dont understand what you mean

lol, i mean that you make like a triangle duct to the end of the hole, so a little bit of air that 'misses' the hole still gets in there.

@Machin; the engine cover and rear end should be a little more compact i think.

I still dont understand, sorry, could you do a drawing in paint or something.

Also on a different note, last year on the Renault did they warm the rear tyres up by blowing the gases from the exhaust or from the cooling, and if it was from the exhaust, would cooling gases have the same effect

The radiator inlets look massive compared to current F1.. maybe you could make them a bit smaller?

I guess that's at me? This car is my design for a 2010 car running to the budget cap... therefore it doesn't have the rev limit of today's cars and has more KERS storage and therefore it needs more cooling   !!!!

Agreed, they do look big, especially next to something like the Brawn which has very small inlets.... in truth the whole car is full of guesses where sizes are concerned.... for example would the engine fit in? Is there enough room for a fuel tank? are the radiator outlets big enough? etc etc... the engine intake on my car is probably over-sized too.... basically its a car that would meet the rules shape/size wise, but is only otherwise "about right".. without fully designing the car and knowing heat-rejection figures, exhaust flow rates, etc etc, that's all these cars could ever be..... Maybe I could spend some time calculating sizes of these components based on the power output etc, but that's a whole heap of time that could be spent in the garage sorting out my real car!
