Hamilton looking strong again in unrepresentative conditions, let's hope he uses his nogging and sets up for the cooler conditions of qualifying.

It was the same yesterday, very quick in FP1 and then know where when track conditions are representative.

Still a decent way off yesterday though. I think the F1 TV commentators said it wasnt that fast in terms of relative lap times we have seen.

I think Merc are in the unfortunate position of needing the conditions to suit the car rather than adapting the car to conditions.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

Gasly has just hit the kerb and the tyre has just popped off the bead on the inside!

Or something has gone on the brake drums. Wheel was sheared!

The sport is a frickin joke, all this calamity with stupid flags & panels could be sorted in an instant.

How difficult would it be to implement a red flag limiter that's activated by race control, it's so simple an idea I can't believe these incompetent fools haven't already thought of it, well I can.

Must have overtook. It was at least under flashing yellow. Stewards are going to investigate it so there must be something there.

He did overtake under a flag of some sort, can't tell what colour the panel was. Merc will say he cant stop in an instant and the Haas was already going very slowly. See what happens

From the onboard:
There was no flag signal on the panels when he overtook the McL.
It starts flashing (edit: it's red) when he came up to the Haas, the Haas at that point was way slower than him and he overtook it going really slowly.
The second panel was off without anything on it.
The physical flag gets popped out after they are all past that post.

The precedent mentioned on sky Decision - Car 33 - alleged overtaking under red flags

edit: here's the onboard

No clue how synced the team radio is in the F1TV onboard channel but the message comes in the corner

Hamilton was flat out, how quickly can you realistically be expected to slow down? The cars on the left were responding to him approaching at full chat, not the red flag. I seem to remember Verstappen being in a similar situation last year.

Yeah, I think the speed differential and the timing of the red in relation to the corner will probably save the penalty from Lewis. Guess the telemetry will show how quickly he reacted to the flag and/or whether there was a further infringement missed by TV later in the lap - but thats unlikely.

But rightfully so, it should be investigated.

There wont be any penalty but their will have to review why the red flag was late and why the panels were not doing what they should have been. Max didn't get a penalty for overtaking under the red flag last season due to closing speeds so this applied to this situation also.
