Toyota TF109

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If the shark fin thing keeps going, how long until the rear wings mounting points become integral with the engine cover?

Parts would have to be beefed up, but I wonder if it would offer any advantage.

Thoughts?

Here is the original sharkfin idea, from 1971.

Radiator inlets on the sidepods look slightly larger. Compare where the inside edge of the intake is with the "D" of the "DENSO" decal. It may be a slightly differently placed decal, but the opening ceratinly looks larger.

Looks like a high downforce modification for Monaco rather than an overall design shift... but we shall see

Pretty.

I do wonder, though: They probably only adjust the rear wing once or twice until they settle on the angle they'll use in qualifying and race... Wouldn't it make sense, aerodynamically, to block these holes that aren't used?

Looks like Toyota was being coy, bunch of new parts on the TF109:

New rear wing design; endplates go lower down RBR-style to the diffuser. Endplates are not connected to diffuser, and innovative "cut" shape for the endplates along with the slits on the endplates themselves. It looks like the airflow coming from around the diffuser interacts directly with these slits.
