Vodaphone McLaren Mercedes MP4-24

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Hmm..

Rearwing now connected to the top of the diffuser (was it always like that?)

They also have the little winglets behind the rear brakes like BGP have.

The DDD looks to be more pronounced now, maybe this is their full bannana's attempt instead of just an interim one.

Many teams are now copying the rear winglets near the brakes that Brawn and Toyota had since the beginning of the season.

The diffuser shape is mostly the same as Monaco, they've just made a few tweaks to the design. Still doesn't look as advanced as the Brawn or Toyota designs.

As ISLAMATRON said, it looks like the hole is a lot bigger this time round. I think it looks a lot more advanced than their monaco diffuser.

I wonder why the edges are so thick. No gurneys on them either.

BGD's DDD is AOK! seems to me the most ideal solution thus far... surprised more teams havent copied it rather than the Toyota/Williams solution which everyone seems to have have copied instead.

There might be difficulty in using a Brawn-style diffuser design for the competition due to differences in car design philosophies.

yeah, it would seem so

any ideas as to the advantages of a rear exit(BGP) verses a top exit DDD such as TOyo/Williams/McMerc/Ferrari, RBR?

These are completely assumptions and guesses on my part, but the top exits might lead to more disruptive airflow for any cars following behind. Other than that, the lower exit on the Brawn might make the car more planted and stable, but I have nothing to support this.

I would think the rear exit flow better and gain downforce from the delta V kinda like the main diffuser, whereas the top exit have more drag and derive their downforce from the air hitting the ramp up of the (back of) the diffuser, kinda like the front wing.

Wish I could stick my head in there for a good look.

Looks almost the same to me. The only difference I see is a change with that central part.
