Toyota TF109

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I do wonder, though: They probably only adjust the rear wing once or twice until they settle on the angle they'll use in qualifying and race... Wouldn't it make sense, aerodynamically, to block these holes that aren't used?
A little helocopter tapewill do the trick

Wing endplate modification.
Looks like a high downforce modification for Monaco rather than an overall design shift... but we shall see
guess I was right

They have been on the car since Shanghai. I'm more interested in what changes are going on at the rear end over there, wish we had better pics of the rear.

The first time they were seen was China.

That would be one example, but I am sure Toyota has some other changes at the rear there. Could be some sort of flow/winglet changes, some mechanical changes, some bodywork changes, or some suspension changes.

As with every race, I'm also eager to look at rear-end close up views of the diffuser to see if they have changed or updated it. Last diffuser update for Toyota was Bahrain I believe.

The fact that we get so little pics of the TF109 rear end exposed without engine cover means we rarely see if any changes are going on there.

Just noticed those new front brake ducts are using a similar idea to McLaren, with a shield or vane for separating airflow.

Looking at pictures of the diffuser from Bahrain (as I could not find any good Monaco pics of the diffuser) Toyota it seems has made some changes.

Bahrain:

Looking closely at this pic below, the edges on the diffuser are a different thickness and it seems a different shape. Now I really want to get a view of that rear end. My guess is the changes were made to optimize the interaction of air coming off the diffuser directly at the innovative rear endplates.

This might sound crazy, but those end plates could serve to frig up anyone following behind; this could be the advent of defensive aerodynamics.
Just imagine a car barreling down behind this, trying to duck under at turn 12 on the Turkey track, instant loss of grip due to very bad air hence lock up and off road trip  ... Orrr the endplates could simply serve to assist the diffuser.
For Sure!!

They look like they help the difuser but will make the air "dirtier" :?
