Bit of an amateur question about the Merc rear suspension that they purchase as a listed part- is it a “fixed” iteration, I.E the same suspension for both teams? Or can there be modification or differences between what each team want?

As far as I know AM make their own suspension but are limited by mounting points because they buy mercs gearbox and casing

Last year Aston Martin took rear suspension and developed their own front suspension.

I believe the former. Aggressive development to close the gap to the top.

I would say 2/3rds is a good figure for a team with a strong level of development. Side pod, front wing, rear wing, floor is basically two thirds of the car already if not more.

I would say 2/3rds is a good figure for a team with a strong level of development. Side pod, front wing, rear wing, floor is basically two thirds of the car already if not more.

It all depends on wind tunnel / track correlation. If they have the right concept to start with AND correlation is outstanding, they can allocate their development budget to the right places. The development race has also become a efficiency race. So bold predictions are... predictions.

What i can glean so far is that the mercedes pu cars seem to have better cooling systems. Possibly influenced by the works team.
Less vents on the sidepods and more rear outlet biased cooling.
The next would be Honda as seen on the Alpha tauri.

Maybe it's just because they're going through the shake downs in cooler climates or cooler days. Until you see them on the track at the same time with a common goal, It's hard to judge cooling needs.

it's basically Last year's williams sloped sidepod morphed with rest of the outer part of the sidepod

We should probably calculate effective area of the gills on the sidepods from Ferrari without canon exit, and effective area of canon exit on other teams. I doubt that for example Ferrari needs that much cooling.

It's probably limited by how much you can dive down and still keep the air attatched.
