Mercedes W14

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

You know those massive upper ducts they have behind the halo almost feel to me like they're considering basically inverting last years sidepods.
I.E - Take this years inlets and put the bulk at the top and take the hot air through the upper tunnels behind the Halo there whilst tapering the sidepods away completely.....it almost lines up with some of the existing contouring.

These might not be the actual sidepods that we'll see into the season?
In theory one may think that you are penalized with rear wing obstruction, but if the floor works much better as a result of bringing the cooling up then you are still gaining performance by doing so in spite of the small loss of rear wing performance. You would much rather take floor performance than rear wing performance if you are able.

Interesting that the Aston and Mercedes share similar cooling solutions as you move towards the rear of the car.

I sure hope Mercedes hasn't gone "so aggressive" with their map that it can't survive installation laps.
Most likely scenario is installation issues.

It was a mounting issue which caused ignition problems.

Excuse the incredibly janky quick paint effort here - and I've made no look at all as to whether it's desirable or even legal at all. But just from looking at it the launch car and the top cannon exits. Or even made it the right shape I intended, it's very quick and dirty, but it feels like they could do this.

Don't take this as anything but idle fantasy though. Just caught the eye a little with how some things line up, thought it looked funny enough to try to see it.

Barely any paint. My assumption is they weren't able to hit the minimum weight without abandoning their silver paint scheme.

The lines are meant to follow the contours of the bodywork not the livery lol
