Are the "cuts" on the new front wing flaps for flexibility?
Are the "cuts" on the new front wing flaps for flexibility?
I have to think. The flap rolls back at speed providing a bit of drag reduction. This was something Alpine missed last season. Ferrari/Mercedes/RedBull took great advantage of this.
That new hump (blue arrow on A523) confirms the hot air will flow more directly into the cannon exit, IMO.diffuser wrote: ↑16 Feb 2023, 23:19https://www.racefans.net/wp-content/upl ... -05-12.jpgBlackout wrote: ↑16 Feb 2023, 12:40Then Alpine, Mercedes & Red Bull FTW.
In that order.
The increase of the 'cannon tube' size/fatness may be the sign that the 'water slide'/trench got deeper and is almost separating the sidepod in two parts.
So maybe hot air will follow path '2' more in 2023 and exit more directly through cannon.
Or not.

The AM has an extreme water slide, and a fat transition for the air to transit from sidepod to cannon exit.
The A523 seems to be skinnier there. But how is its water slide?
We'll see, in Abu Dhabi 2023

Yup front on looks very similar to rb18 post-franceBlackout wrote: ↑18 Feb 2023, 08:18The tunnel mouth is not an evolution of last year, it's a 90% redesign. Except the outer fence, a.k.a bargeboard, the top leading edge (yellow) & the fences (green) are completely different. The top is pulled up & very curved à la RB18. Fences angle & shape (& position) are new.

Don't buy into my tubercles theory?
The waterslides on this year's alpine look very refined. I'm surprised they didn't reverted the sidepod inlets to start of '22 design though given almost everyone else is opting for high/wide inlets like they developed towards last year. Maybe we'll see them change at testing and this is just a placeholder
Did you mean didn't ?
They actually changed them. They're still very boxy, like they were at the end of 2022. The top corners of the inlet are still 90 degrees but the bottom outer corners are now greater than 90 degrees, forcing the bottom inner corners to less that 90 degrees and a slight slant in the bottom of that inlet.
Yes the fences have a different shape but a similar angle to the French GP RB updateorganic wrote: ↑18 Feb 2023, 08:45Yup front on looks very similar to rb18 post-franceBlackout wrote: ↑18 Feb 2023, 08:18The tunnel mouth is not an evolution of last year, it's a 90% redesign. RB have ditched their double bargeboard arrangement at their floor edge. Will need more photos to 100% confirm but I believe they now use 3 of their fences for managing underbody flow, as the other teams also do

Silverstone to compare. You can see here they only use 2 floor fences under the floor, and 2 taller outboard fences. Probably the largest floor change RB have made since the start of the season.
Are they trying to form a downwashing cascade with the new front suspension location there
The way you are keeping track of the changes and evolutions is impressive, fantastic job!Blackout wrote: ↑18 Feb 2023, 10:11But this floor edge seems to come straight outta Abu Dhabi 2022. Everything is there, at the same place (except the 'gurney flap' area which, it seems, has been cut away - red arrow)
