Well I’m not going to get carried away from a few laps of a shake down, but things do look a little more positive than what they did a few days ago

IMO, The important thing McLaren must achieve this year is a compliant car, which they can then build upon

As always with testing, the real tell will ultimately be the mood within the team, not the lap times
The mood after Barcelona last year was joyful. Everyone was elated and even Andreas who is usually stoic on interviews couldn't hold on a grin.

So yeah, I would wait until they start racing before building any sort of expectation.

I think that was an exceptional set of circumstances, but you are of course correct.

Like what happened in 2011, only in reverse, where they had a dismal test and came 2nd in race 1

Race pace is of course relative to other teams & we will only know that during competitive running, but if the team aren’t happy on Saturday then the season ahead, at least the start of it, will not be good, on the other hand, an ecstatic will not mean a great season, but will be a big positive marker

We should not. Either we get a works deal with a German manufacturer or Honda, or we should stick to Mercedes. Red Bull is not a reliable partner. Way too much politics from their end. They’ll use their engines as leverage against us when it suits them. It would be a fruitless adventure and a very stupid mistake if Brown were to pursue this.

How so?
Brown has been talking to Honda about something for 2026 (weeks ago), he is evaluating options after 2025 deal with merc finishes.
This is just him visiting the facilities, the news papers think there is now a link between red bull and McLaren. It is just moronic and catching on way to slowly.

Rumors from the AMR camp are placing that car in a very competitive position in terms of pecking order predictions.

This is coming from a team which probably invented the word bullish though, so remains to be seen how that will translate.

If there will be a battle for 4th, so far it seems like Alpine and AM will be the main competitors at this point, so we are getting 2020 flashbacks I guess.

That's a valid glass-half-empty view. The glass-half-full view is that the rumors from the Merc camp are that the car is in serious trouble so we could be in with a shot at P3 if Oscar can be competitive. WHO KNOWS?!
