Actually 8 laps less than Aston Martin… Not ideal to finish with 92 laps, but it isn’t catastrophic either… Last season they completed 49 in the first day, 59 in the second day and 90 laps on the third day.

Lap times don’t matter in testing, it’s well known… But for it been the first day of testing, they are already 2 seconds faster than the first day of testing last season and 0.27 seconds from their best lap on the final day of testing last season (also on C3 tires)

Definitely not but compared to Test ‘22 they’ve made a big leap

well they should do less social media, more running, the car is as it looks, average. as a Mclaren fan well the ambitions was not there from the start so hope they can find some pace

Personally I did not hit the panic button. But I was unhappy the team could not hit the ground running for a second year in a row. Both times it seems it is a problem with understanding airflow around the brake ducts - last year overheating the brakes and this year apparently damaging parts around the brake. At least that is my casual understanding of it.

These things add up. They had to fix this today, lost 2 hours of running. They probably have to keep an eye on it, they will need to test fixes tomorrow or day after. And so on. With such limited testing every little thing counts.

I expect and hope this team will return to the top. Top teams usually avoid these type of issues. This is why I think I have full right to say that I am disappointed by this and that the team needs to get down to the bottom of these issues. Maybe it is because the wind tunnel is not good enough - maybe. Hopefully that is resolved and the team can achieve high level of running like the top teams usually do.

To be fair, I am quite happy with lap times that Lando did after the fix. Maybe the car is decent.

Ahh yes because the social media team also designs the car (which has only completed a single day of testing)

A I mentionned in the Alpine thread they improved their gap to the leader faster than Alpine last season. They begun the season +3s in qualy and +100s in race to +1.2/5s and ~60-70s. On some occasions they were even faster than Alpine.





Now it's the first car really designed by Dan Fallows and they've got Alonso, I think they will be top of midfield, if not battling for podium on some occasions.
