Both stints were way too slow, no matter the fuel load. Lot's of engine power still available
At the same time Sainz and Norris were doing long run. We dont know anything fuel related, but Sainz was about 2/10 per lap faster and Norris 2 sec slower on avg

Alonso's fast lap times at the end of the first day of the test were encouraging for the Silverstone racing team. Yes, the slope was cooler at that time and offered more adhesion, which automatically drops the lap times. And yet the green car has left a lasting impression. "Maybe they are even ahead of Mercedes at this early stage," says a high-ranking engineer from the paddock.

At Aston Martin, you look into satisfied faces. The car is definitely a step forward. Fernando's time was achieved as part of a so-called push round. But in terms of engine power and fuel quantity, there was still room for improvement and was not comparable to a qualifying run

The way AMR seem so keen to have Stroll back in the car so soon...you would think the car will be competing for the championship...

I think the issue is they do not have a replacement. Stoffel or Drugovic are not up to F1 levels, for Stoffel it is very long time that he was actually sitting in the F1 car....Drugovic now has 1.5 days to get used to it with just being best of the rest in F2....
I think they have two options....get Schumacher into the car on Saturday and run him in the first race or bet on Stroll being back. With Dru in the car tomorrow they must be confident on Stroll.

Yep, that would be awesome to see Vet vs Alo finally in the same car.....still the chance is near zero.

Aston Martin could capitalize on this marketing moment, however it'll be a cold day in the underworld for Sebastian Vettel to come out of retirement to go somewhere like Bahrain....Given his most recent musings...

A few years ago when this team had a very good car(Mercedes 2)like this they didnt have a proper driver to deliver.
No excuses this time around.

It definitely seems like Stroll will be out of the first race. I would probably say he's out for the second race as well if that's the case, because Jeddah is a very demanding circuit and there is not much time between races. Right now I don't see how it wouldn't be Drugovich in the car, and he seems decent enough. I mean he's not going to go head to head with Alonso, but then again Stroll probably wouldn't either.

Ironically Mick Schumacher would be a decent sub on loan from Merc, but Merc loaned him to McLaren not Aston. Schumacher-Alonso would have been a good-sounding driver lineup, even if Mick isn't exactly Michael when it comes to pure talent IMO.

But that's what Drugovich is on the payroll for, so let him do his job. I'd rather the actual third driver get the job, unlike, for example, when Hamilton missed a race in 2020 and suddenly "every option was on the table" even though they already had three reserve drivers available, and went with none of them.

Would be ironic that Vandoorne could yet again miss out on an opportunity to drive a very competitive F1 car in Bahrain because of a Formula E commitment.
