I am sorry but I don't believe this is a wheel brow issue, there hasn't been any evidence that they have tried to reinforce that part and even then they said it wouldn't be an issue moving forward. Brakes and cooling again but apparently they can fix it for the first race next week.
I literally watched them putting it back together with resin this morning 😵‍💫

I would wait till we complete our program today and try qualifying laps to see where we stand compared to the reat.

If we get any more running done…

Should do as long as they're happy the repair has taken.
If it hasn't, maybe not, takes a good hour to get any decent strength into a patch repair even after the actual work. Although you'd think they'd just risk it.

Isn't a wheel brow a spec part? How would that part be damaged, isn't the most likely culprit heat?

It's a spec part but the teams make it themselves.

Just watching on board now, left one still moving under brakes and lifting with speed, just embarassing.

You're not allowed to say that, it's obviously not the wheel brow and definately overheating brakes and they'll never get it fixed

Could just be the joint to the upright itself, vibrating more than they expected, etc, there's quite a sharp radius there - you saw them drilling out the crack there the first day on the TV. Little too much stress there at a guess. They did mention over the winter the new front tyre deforming slightly differently than originally expected, so maybe they have a little bit of resonance.

Can't see it needing much more than actually completely removing, grinding out and rebuilding with a couple of extra layers of carbon tape. Might even find they just bond a titanium stiffener in there for next week temporarily, easy fix.

So around 0.5s behind ALO on like for like tyre. Usual provisos (engine mode/fuel load).
Seems AM may have genuinely made the jump to Merc territory with RB and FER around 0.4s ahead of that. We are just about hanging on towards 5th/6th best team depending on circuit imho

Looked like it was still vibrating a bit, might have come back in to check if they're happy to risk it or not.

What does it matter if it is a brake cooling calculation mistake or mistake in the strength of a piece connecting to the wheel brow (or whatever). The result is the same. Team is losing time trying to figure out how to do more running due to amateurish mistakes.

It matters because far too many people here blow a simple issue up into a dozen other massive issues they made up in their heads, and then start screaming about incompetence in here.
Almost every car on track has had issues. That's how building race cars goes, something you become very aware that 99.9% of people here have never done because having only a couple of issues like this in testing would be amazing for most race series.

Yes, they're losing time, you can't really do much about that, it's heat cured epoxy, it needs ~70 minutes to cure under temperature, you just have to sit back and twiddle your thumbs.
Red Bull had wings cracking left right and centre all season last year and being patched up, are they amateurs too? Or are they doing what a race team should, and optimising everything to the very edge?

The problem is that we do the least amount of laps and we are slower than most. So even if the other teams has problems they are doing a better job fixing and geting time on track.
