Most successful independent team and engine partner combinations in Formula 1

Post

Formula 1's racing traditions always be a factory team vs independent team on the track in the past since its' inception in 1950. Here are the most successful independent team and engine partner combinations in Formula 1 as of 2023:

Image
1. Red Bull Racing with Renault in 2010-2013 (2011 Red Bull Racing became Renault's flagship team in Formula 1)

Image
2. McLaren with Honda in 1988-1991

Image
3. Williams with Renault in 1992-1997

Any additions?

At that point Mercedes were a stakeholder in the team (from what I can recall).

Hard to define Most Successful over time, but Tyrrell Cosworth (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrrell_G ... ix_results) and Lotus Cosworth (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Grand_Prix_results) spring to mind

Well I'm only seeing RedBull making it in to 3rd spot on this list , not top ???

Equal 1st WIlliams-Renault and Lotus-Ford

Williams 5 constructors (92,93,94,96,97) and 4 drivers (92,93,96,97)

Lotus 5 constructors (68,70,72,73,78) and 4 drivers (68,70,72,78)

bit disappointed any fan can miss Lotus from a list. #-o

I would have suggested Lotus, but felt that some of their successes were in a period of manufacturer backing (sole use of DFV power initially, followed by preferred customer status thereafter).

Tyrell a good call, as would BRM be (different eras & BRM built their own engines as well - does that make them a factory team/manufacturer?); there is also Cooper/Climax & Brabham/Repco who also have championships to their name.

Totally agree on the call with RedBull - 4 championships with Renault, 1 with Honda,
1 with RBPT.

At that point Mercedes were a stakeholder in the team (from what I can recall).
In 98 i'm not sure, hard to remember, they might've bought in around 2000.
I know that by 2007-8 they had something in the range of 40% which is more than they currently have of the Mercedes-AMG team.
And then they wanted to buy controlling interest and Ron did everything he could to push them out.

Anyway... if "preferential supply" isn't a deterrent you guys are doing good, Williams-Renault, Mclaren-Honda, Red Bull-Renault, Lotus-Cosworth...

And maybe Brawn-Mercedes, just one season but a good one i'd say and without preferential status(that would be Mclaren).
