Well Coulthard said to Charles that he had a glint in his eye and Leclerc didn’t deny it. I think he still fancies it tomorrow.
A late SC, a well timed pit call for new softs, combined with top speed advantage + DRS...
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Watched post race interview and both of them looked quite downbeat. Carlos said RB are 1 step ahead in qualy, and it's 1.5 in race pace. Charles is saying more or less the same things with different words.
The threat came from behind imo.

LEC v VER
* T1 was slower for Ferrari all the past 2 weeks
* T13 with a mistake for LEC
* The engine is powerful: exit from T10 and through the straight keeping up with RBR and finishing on the same speed despite starting off with later acceleration out of the corner.

As testing so far has shown Ferrari has struggled here on slow speed corners.
Tomorrow it will be tough, SAI just said they degrade faster than RBR, the new set of tires is worth 5 seconds in the first stint so they are starting on softs.

LEC expected to be further away in quali. Says that RBR/AM are far ahead on race pace, I don't think they were dealing with the same stint still.

Leclerc is playing down their chances a lot. That's a big difference from last year, so I'd say that's Vasseur's influence.

Sainz gained 0.2 on Charles in T1 and pretty much the same in T10. Must be setup otherwise pole was definitely on the cards for CL

Leclerc has always been a pessimist. Sainz has always been an optimist.

Good Q session, they need to get to know the car a bit more and there's 2-3 tenths in that for sure. Leclerc likely had another tenth and I think it was a good strategic decision to save a set. Let's see how the race goes, not a bad thing for them to keep chasing, Checco won't be untouchable for either Ferrari at all.
“Good strategic decision”. This is refreshing to hear. First one of 2023 looks to be a good one. The first race could be interesting with 3 rookies and lots of team changes.

It's an extremely good decision imo. Already positive strategy calls in race 1 of new team principal

Maybe, maybe not. This is Ferrari with a very small RW. We don't know how they'd look if they went the other way with setup. Maybe true that this car isn't optimized at the moment for a Monaco sort of track.

All in all, for a completely new concept and an unoptimized car, I believe there is much optimism to be had. The new RW would have been nice, as well as the front end limitation but the important part is to maximize points in the race and go from there.

Fixed - there is no way you could compete without that part. It is very important for performance; think of it like losing some of your bargeboard.

I am optimistic that P2 is possible for LEC tomorrow. Thats of course considering there are no mistakes from him or the team. As for SAI i think ALO might be a threat with low tyre deg of Aston.
