What a funny and unpredictable joke, totally resolves the question in your favor.
We have seen so often teams get their data wrong. Why is it surprising? Didn't Ferrari get it grossly wrong in Hungary last year? Having been watching the Pirelli show for 13 years now, we have enough experience of knowing how they behave. May be their calculation is about a theoretical stint where after pitting and coming out, you take care of the tyres and then over 25 to 39 laps, the difference over used tyres is 5 seconds. It's a different ball game at the start of a race.
