Team seems confident from rumour, and the car was no slower than merc on the straights in quali at Bahrain (both 319 km/h top speed) despite the low df wing for Merc and safe to say AMR will bring a low df wing to match the circuit. Maybe they won't have the efficiency of RB/Ferrari but still it won't be bad. Third fastest at worst IMO - Merc were quite weak through the high speed & straights at Bahrain despite the smaller wing
That was the absolute coolest part last year !AR3-GP wrote: ↑14 Mar 2023, 21:31DRS detection point for the pit straight has been moved to after the last corner: https://www.gpblog.com/en/news/187831/n ... rn-27.html
This should prevent silly buggers into the final corner.
I hope you're right!F1Krof wrote: ↑14 Mar 2023, 23:23I'm going to be the most optimistic about this race that everyone at the top will be almost evenly matched and that 4 teams will fight for Qualy and Race tooth and nail.
My wish:
Qualy:
1. Alonso
2. Verstappen
3. Hamilton
4. Leclerc
5. Russel
6. Sainz
7. Perez
8. Stroll
Race:
1. Hamilton
2. Alonso
3. Verstappen
4. Leclerc
5. Russel
6. Stroll
7. Sainz
8. Gasly
Sorry to spoil the narrative, but to a large degree you make your own luck in F1; one other point, 0.3-0.5 seconds off is not slow but difficult to create the heroic fight-back otherwise, heh?ringo wrote: ↑14 Mar 2023, 16:46My predictions are reliability failure for redbull or ferrari and a clash between Alonso and Checo.
This track will produce heated battles for closely matched cars. For sparks to fly, pun intended, you just need drivers that wont back down like Max, Checo and Alonso to be fighting over the same piece of track.
Russel to get lucky again with a safety car and podium. Hard to say what becomes of Lewis, but a steady measured race from him in his slow W14.
Ahem mate, that's not true.. in the race mercedes was significantly faster on straights than aston when not DRSed. They were also faster in qualifying on every straight and especially the one down to T14. Similar top speed is deceiving you.organic wrote: ↑14 Mar 2023, 21:18Team seems confident from rumour, and the car was no slower than merc on the straights in quali at Bahrain (both 319 km/h top speed) despite the low df wing for Merc and safe to say AMR will bring a low df wing to match the circuit. This is because of their Ferrari-inspired rear wing design, which gives much lower DRS gain, but quite a bit less draggy with the closed flap in race situation.
Thank you for the correction you're quite right. Similar top speed but Merc gained on every straight over the Aston. I think if Merc use this wing again in Jeddah however they will seem quite slow on the straights once everyone else lowers their drag levelsJuzh wrote: ↑15 Mar 2023, 12:05

Aston was a brick in bahrain. Right choice for that track, but still a brick.
