Likely a precautionary change until Mercedes HPP have time to do a full analysis of the route cause of the pneumatic issue as opposed to a catastrophic failure of all previous components.Mostlyeels wrote: ↑17 Mar 2023, 21:18https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files ... tition.pdf

where did you see that? i was watching the lap and could swear that he was on soft (diff matter that in both FP1 and FP2 be barely improved his Hard time with his soft run)Darth-Piekus wrote: ↑17 Mar 2023, 21:54I noticed that Norris did his time with the Hard. Makes me wonder how much better time could he have done with the medium and soft.
You'd have thought so, but also I would've expected an RCA by now (2 weeks later), since it affects all teams using their PU (including themselves). If it's systemic you'd think they'd have expedited the fix in time for the next race. There don't seem to be any rumours saying it's more than a one-off issue though, that I've heard.Stig14 wrote: ↑17 Mar 2023, 21:41Likely a precautionary change until Mercedes HPP have time to do a full analysis of the route cause of the pneumatic issue as opposed to a catastrophic failure of all previous components.Mostlyeels wrote: ↑17 Mar 2023, 21:18https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files ... tition.pdf

It seems that McLaren were seriously turned down on the PU front yesterday (perhaps to bed on the new unit for Lando) so hopefully we will see something more representative todayMrGapes wrote: ↑18 Mar 2023, 09:51https://ibb.co/6RnMMFZ
Quali sim Lando aborted to pit. vs Ham
obviously far more loaded setup, drivers need to try to stay within drs tomorrow
I would hope so, they were either marginally quicker or matched last years car on the corresponding straights... considering this car has a lower df wing spec than last year, and a less draggy car you would expect a considerable difference in kph.Stig14 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2023, 10:56It seems that McLaren were seriously turned down on the PU front yesterday (perhaps to bed on the new unit for Lando) so hopefully we will see something more representative todayMrGapes wrote: ↑18 Mar 2023, 09:51https://ibb.co/6RnMMFZ

Or perhaps to just offer it the minimum strain prior to the race, it makes sense to be cautious.Stig14 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2023, 10:56It seems that McLaren were seriously turned down on the PU front yesterday (perhaps to bed on the new unit for Lando) so hopefully we will see something more representative todayMrGapes wrote: ↑18 Mar 2023, 09:51https://ibb.co/6RnMMFZ

They should have just retired in Bahrain in retrospective. The whole re-pumping every 10 laps thing must have put the power unit under stress.
I guess the data collected was worth the risk, especially since they had such a disrupted pre season test, this was probably seen as an extension.
