Sergio Perez briefly lost the lead to Fernando Alonso at the start but soon recovered and led the remaining laps to easily win the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Max Verstappen recovered from 15th to 2nd. Fernando Alonso finished third despite a post-race penalty that was reversed later in the evening.
well, yes, but because he messed up his lap (missed turn 1) when trying to improve. It's not like RBR did only one run because they were that far ahead. I expected more from Ferrari as well, but Perez first attempt was still pretty good.

Not sure how that equates to messing up his turn 1 however, unless he completely cut the corner and gained an advantage. Which I can’t see. As he wouldn’t continue the lap

Rb's biggest gains were coming from S2 and S3. AMR is probably the best car in S1. We don't know what laptime he would have done. Even if he didn't improve in S1, he could have found pace in the last 2 sectors. 1 messup in 1 part of the circuit doesn't mean no part of the first lap at some other part of the circuit couldn't have been better.

His long runs were strong in FP2. Half a second clear of the others. The Aston Martin is a dog on the straights. Leclerc has a grid drop. Who is going to challenge Perez except for Verstappen?
That would be fabulous, even if he doesn't have the pace to keep him behind. He certainly has a good knack of jumping places at the start, so if Perez falters he should shoot past him.
