Looks like Ferrari really needs 2 laps to get the fast one.

This is a pattern here. It seems fast long corners are Charles' weakness

If you include jeddah '21 & mexico '22, it would be 5/85 gp's across 4 years. 3 of which are in fp sessions.

edit: add monaco '21 quali. 6/85

He gets praised for his qualifying excellence, but the ability to drive on the edge doesn't just come from nowhere, sometimes he'll find the limit. And when he does, it get blown out of the water with over reaction.

I agree with your point on where these crashes are occuring, they all seem to be of high speed nature

Should be added that in quali he was probably the quickest driver in the corner where he crashed in FPs.

The real concern isn't the crash, but the fact that apparently the tyres were overheating massively in the race sim. As a matter of fact, Ferrari was almost 1s slower than RB.

Might Charles have damaged his floor with that crash or was it only front wing and suspension?

Wing and front right. I think he made the right decision by going in straight. Hinch on F1TV broadcast suggested he lift the brake and steer away from the wall. Doing that I would assume he would've ran the risk of spinning and hitting the rear and potentially also damaging the floor.

Data on overheating tires ?

Matteo Bobbi from Sky Italia. The real issue is that he wasn't even lapping fast... As usual this car in race trim becomes a complete disaster. Let's see if they can improve the situation for the race.

Checking the sector times it's insane how this car changes from quali to race trim. In quali trim Leclerc was able to pretty much match Max sector 2 while in race trim he was losing over 0.5s per lap. It's absolutely crazy to me.

lol :). Appreciate the consideration.

LEC v VER sample race sim lap:
Image

* This is a lap from race sim when both VER and LEC had 10 lap old mediums, the vast majority of time lost happens in the straights.
* Cornering is still decent although T11-16 is not a gain for Ferrari any more but a slight gain for Max.

One of 2 thoughts come to mind:
* Despite the big wing (10kph top speed penalty but a LOT lower speed curve) Ferrari still not fast enough in the corners. That RBR balance is something else.
* No clue how tires could be overheating with that wing but obviously something isn't right because the rear was sliding around.

Image

Race sim data is bad to start as too few laps were done but Ferrari's race pace is slow for sure.

Thanks.Still couldn’t understand why Ferrari did not start race pace sim until last 20 mins of FP2. For a team whose performance degrades so much in race pace, you would think they would focus more on race pace setup.

If you've been following the speculations regarding the limitations of the car's suspension the last week or so, you'd know there is nothing they could do in the short term.

The only hope (if things are as bad as it looks right now) is hoping for the track to rubber in even more aggressively.

It is also worth noting that no other team did any long runs early into the session which is quite against the trend. Perhaps they felt like the track wasn't representitive enough yet?
